The programme is a two-year, hands-on learning journey designed to build expertise across the entire coffee business. The core responsibility is to successfully complete a series of rotational modules.

Primary Programme Activities:

  • Rotational Placements: Complete core and elective modules in various departments, which include but are not limited to:
    • Sourcing/Purchasing: Learning how green coffee is procured.
    • Production Operations: Understanding the processing and preparation of coffee.
    • Quality: Gaining skills in quality control and assurance.
    • Trading: Learning about risk management and trading operations.
    • Logistics: Managing the export, import, and distribution supply chain.
    • Sustainability: Working on projects related to the Volcafe Way farmer support programme.
    • Finance: Understanding the financial aspects of commodity trading.
  • Hands-On Learning: Actively engaging in the day-to-day operations of a leading global coffee trader, going beyond theoretical learning.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Working closely with a programme sponsor and a diverse range of expert mentors across the global business to build necessary knowledge and skills.
  • Skill Development: Actively developing the analytical, research, and business acumen required to graduate from the programme and launch a career within Volcafe.

Personal Commitments & Attributes Required

The role requires significant personal flexibility and commitment, outlined as follows:

  • Global Mobility: Must be willing and able to relocate globally at short notice for periods of weeks or months at a time. The programme begins in Uganda but requires openness to global rotations.
  • Flexible Working Hours: Must be able to support highly flexible working hours, including shift patterns, working during harvest seasons, and on special projects.
  • Dedication to Learning: Demonstrating a positive, curious, and dedicated attitude towards learning all aspects of the coffee business.
  • Embracing Company Values: Behaving in accordance with the company's core values: Respect, Integrity, Meritocracy, Client Focus, and Entrepreneurship.
