JOB DETAILS:
Project Background:
USAID’s Bicycles for Growth (BFG) Project identifies tools, approaches, partnerships, and incentives that successfully improve sustainable access to and uptake of appropriate, affordable bicycles in sub-Saharan Africa. This strategy increases mobility, particularly in rural areas, and aid in alleviating poverty. BFG conducted bicycle market system assessments in Ghana, Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia to better understand the dynamics of bicycle usage and availability through the application of a market systems approach. Bicycle market system profiles have been finalized in the five countries.

The BFG Project seeks to engage a part-time Communications and Graphic Design Consultant to create, circulate, and advertise content for social media and other project outreach. The Consultant will design graphics and communications materials layout and text to communicate findings and recommendations from the five-country bicycle market system profiles. The detailed responsibilities and requirements are outlined below.

Responsibilities:

• Finalize communications plan with the project team.
• Develop and finalize communications materials, including graphics and written materials, based on input from the technical team and key findings and recommendations in each of the bicycle market system assessment reports and profiles.
• Advertise and circulate approved communications materials to key audiences internationally, according to the communications plan.
• Illustrate concepts by designing art arrangement, size, type size and style.
• Create a wide range of graphics and layouts for the three pillars of the bicycle market system i.e. Demand, Supply and Systems.
• Ensure that the designs meet project standards and USAID branding and marking requirements and BFG branding and marking plan.
• Submit all materials and concepts for approval to the BFG Project Director.

Requirements:

• Certificate or diploma in communications and graphic design or related field.
• At least 4 years experience as a graphic designer or in related field.
• At least 4 years experience in developing content for social media and/or other communications and outreach.
• Demonstrable graphic design skills with a strong portfolio.
• Proficiency with required desktop publishing tools, including Photoshop, InDesign, Quark, and Illustrator.
• A strong eye for visual composition.
• Excellent written English skills.
• Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Able to give and receive constructive criticism.
• Understanding of corporate identity, product packaging, advertisements, and multimedia design.
• Experience with computer-aided design.
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with photo-editing software.
• Experience with USAID or other international donor communications campaigns and branding is desired.
• Preference for a professional that is geographically located in a sub-Saharan African country.
• Preference for a professional with a high level of familiarity and/or communications network in Ghana.
