JOB DETAILS:
1. DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLE
The overall role of the Country Director is to expand and enhance SRHR Alliance Uganda’s current programmes and lead the staff team in strengthening SRHR programming for adolescents and young people in Uganda.

The Country Director will lead the SRHR Alliance to achieve its bold strategic ambition, ensuring that:
• Our strategic Focus and ambitions remain well funded, growing and our work is recognized locally and internationally and remains relevant to the needs of young people in Uganda.
• Our team is motivated, skilled, and relevant and that our organization is effective and efficient, compliant with the policies, standards and expectations of the founders and members of the SRHR Alliance Uganda.
• Our work is guided by effective operations, strong financial management and reporting of budgets and performance of work plans to create a positive change for Young people.
• Safeguarding of all programme participants and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in our programmes.
• Our Alliance is fully represented and visible in government, UN and NGO coordination systems including variety of working groups for development and refugee context.

As a Country Director, you will drive the SRHR Alliance Uganda’s programme, influencing and advocacy work, setting the overall direction, leading a high performing team, ensuring accountability for meeting demanding targets and maintaining alignment with her members’ strategic Focus to deliver positive change for Young people in Uganda.

2. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Head SRHR Alliance Uganda Secretariat and provide strategic leadership and management to staff and programs.
• In consultation with the Board of Directors, be responsible for recruitment, employment and care for the staff and volunteers.
• Manage individuals across the team to ensure full development of potential through induction, mentoring/ coaching, and performance management, ensuring compliance in all core policy and business areas, including safe guarding actions.
• Guide and coordinate the development and implementation of the SRHR Alliance Uganda Strategic Plan across the Country.
• Responsible for mobilizing, managing and coordination of resources and ensure sound financial management practices.
• Maintain oversight of financial control, and the appropriate and prudent utilization of funds and other resources under SRHR Alliance Uganda care, in accordance with relevant policies, agreements, regulations and legislation
• Direct the establishment of effective and efficient management and operating structures and systems of SRHR Alliance Uganda
• Lead representation of the SRHR Alliance Uganda’s work and positions on priority issues to all key stakeholders within the country, including media and the highest levels of government.
• Provide strategic guidance to the development of programs, project proposals, organizational and financial plans consistent with the goals and strategies approved by the Board of Directors.
• Convene statutory meetings of the SRHR Alliance Uganda, Youth Advisory Committee and Technical Committee as required and as necessary.
• Keep Board of Directors updated on key program developments, plans, budgets and decisions taken by management.
• Commission and supervise rigorous evidence-based research related to SRHR for evidence-based planning and policy development.
• Ensure that official records and documents are properly maintained.
• Ensure compliance with international, regional, national and district and local community level regulations governing NGOs and SRHR related policies and guidelines.
• Ensure the SRHR Alliance meets performance against organizations management standards at all times.
• Ensure timely and engaging external communications that keeps the SRHR Alliance at the forefront of the issues affecting Young people in Uganda.

3. ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Master’s Degree in development studies (or equivalent) in social sciences, Public Health, business administration or related field; or equivalent experience.
• Cultural understanding and proven significant experience of exercising leadership functions with increasing responsibility in an NGO environment related to development or with diverse populations, cultures, and social or economic contexts.
• Additional post-graduate training in project management, health management, institutional management and monitoring and evaluation is an added advantage.
• Experience (minimum 7 years) working in health related field with focus on SRHR, HIV and AIDS and proven track record in senior management with experience and demonstrated skill in supervising staff and building dynamic teams in an organisation offering services like those of SRHR Alliance Uganda.

4. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND COMPETENCES:
The ideal candidate should be a strategic thinker, creative, self-motivated and team player with substantial senior level experience managing staff and working on SRHR, Gender Equality and HIV/AIDS related programmes in Uganda. The position requires a mix of skills and competences. Accordingly, the candidate will require the following skills and competencies.

5. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of SRHR programming for adolescents and young people in Uganda is a must
• Knowledge of HIV epidemiology and other STI in Uganda is required.
• HIV Programming and management in Uganda
• National and international legislations and policies relating to SRHR and HIV and AIDS.
• Conception, design and management of programs, strategies, initiatives, and campaigns relating to SRHR, HIV and AIDS response in the country.
• Board operations and Secretarial practice.
• Qualitative and Quantitative research experience, plus experience in strategic data collection for planning and advocacy.
• Knowledge of the geopolitical factors affecting Adolescent and Youth Health in the country and the political, social and environmental opportunities for change is an advantage
• Knowledge of the requirements of donor compliance and financial management.
• Proven networking and negotiation skills with governmental and non- governmental actors
• Strong diplomatic and communication skills, including through mass-media in order to influence decision-makers and key stakeholders.
