Job Purpose
The Electrical Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and machinery within the clinker production plant to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance and Repair
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment and systems.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair faults in motors, transformers, switchgear, electrical panels, drives, and control systems.
- Troubleshoot electrical breakdowns and implement timely corrective actions to minimize production downtime.
- Conduct routine testing and maintenance of electrical installations and equipment.
Plant Operations Support
- Monitor the performance of electrical systems and production equipment.
- Support clinker production operations by ensuring the reliability and availability of electrical equipment.
- Assist in the commissioning and installation of new electrical equipment and plant upgrades.
- Maintain electrical power distribution systems within the factory.
Instrumentation and Control Systems
- Assist in the maintenance and calibration of instrumentation and control systems.
- Monitor and troubleshoot PLCs, VFDs, sensors, and automated control systems.
- Ensure proper functioning of electrical control circuits and protection systems.
Inspection and Preventive Maintenance
- Conduct regular inspections of electrical equipment to identify potential faults and safety hazards.
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules and maintain maintenance records.
- Recommend improvements to enhance equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
Safety, Health, and Environmental Compliance
- Ensure all electrical work is carried out in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health standards.
- Adhere to lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and electrical safety regulations.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing duties.
- Report unsafe conditions and participate in safety inspections and risk assessments.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, inspection records, and work reports.
- Document equipment failures, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance reports as required.
Teamwork and Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with Mechanical Technicians, Production Teams, and Contractors to ensure smooth plant operations.
- Participate in maintenance planning and shutdown activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing plant reliability and efficiency.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior technicians when required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Industrial Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in industrial electrical maintenance, preferably in a cement plant, clinker factory, mining operation, manufacturing plant, or heavy industry.
- Experience working with motors, transformers, switchgear, PLCs, VFDs, and industrial automation systems.
- Knowledge of electrical drawings, schematics, and control circuits.
- Valid practicing certification or registration with the relevant professional body is an added advantage.
