Role Purpose
The Environment Officer will support the implementation of environmental policies, standards, and procedures to ensure compliance with Ugandan laws, international best practices, and company environmental management systems during operations. The officer will play a key role in environmental monitoring, reporting, and promoting sustainable practices across the project site.
Key Responsibilities
Implement and monitor the company’s Environmental Management Plan (EMP) in line with national and international requirements.
Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with environmental standards and regulations.
Collect, analyze, and report environmental data (air, water, soil, waste management, biodiversity, etc.).
Support environmental impact assessments, audits, and risk assessments.
Train staff and contractors on environmental policies, waste management, spill response, and sustainable practices.
Prepare regular environmental compliance reports for submission to regulators and company management.
Liaise with government agencies (e.g., NEMA, Ministry of Water and Environment), local authorities, and communities regarding environmental issues.
Respond to environmental incidents, investigate root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
Support continuous improvement initiatives in environmental health and safety performance.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a closely related field.
Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in environmental management, preferably in oil & gas, energy, or infrastructure projects.
Technical Skills: Knowledge of environmental regulations in Uganda, EIA processes, waste management, biodiversity conservation, and environmental monitoring techniques.
Other Skills: Strong reporting and communication skills; ability to train and raise awareness among staff; good teamwork and problem-solving abilities.
