Description
Founded in 1970, Katalemwa Cheshire Home for Rehabilitation Services (KCH) is a disability focused NGO that provides rehabilitation services to children aged 0-18 years and young person’s 19-24 years with disabilities. It provides quality medical care, social economic support and fabrication of orthopaedic appliances through a network of partner organizations, Center and Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID), and Rights Based Programming (RBP), and works with families, communities, civil society, development partners and Government of Uganda.
With a vision of having a society where Persons with disability live productive and dignified lives, KCH is seeking to recruit a dynamic, competent, and experienced individual to fill the position Executive Director.
Duty Station: Katalemwa Cheshire Home, Kampala, Uganda
Reports to: Board of Governors
Contract Type: Renewable subject to satisfactory performance and organisational needs.
Job Purpose
The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership, overall management, and direction to Katalemwa Cheshire Home. The position holder will be responsible for effective implementation of the organisation’s strategic plan, resource mobilisation, programme quality, financial sustainability, governance compliance, stakeholder engagement, and delivery of high-quality services to children and persons with disabilities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Executive Director will:
- Provide visionary and strategic leadership to ensure the achievement of KCH’s mission, vision, and strategic objectives.
- Lead the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of organisational strategies, policies, plans, and budgets.
- Ensure effective programme planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning across all KCH interventions.
- Lead resource mobilisation efforts through proposal development, donor engagement, partnerships management, fundraising, and income-generating initiatives.
- Ensure sound financial management, internal controls, accountability, and compliance with statutory, donor, and organisational requirements.
- Provide leadership in human resource management, staff development, performance management, and organisational culture.
- Strengthen governance structures and provide timely, accurate, and relevant reports to the Board of Governors.
- Represent KCH in national, regional, and international forums, partnerships, networks, and advocacy platforms.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with government institutions, development partners, donors, communities, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders.
- Promote safeguarding, disability inclusion, child protection, gender equality, and protection from sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment across all KCH programmes and operations.
- Oversee the development and sustainability of KCH’s orthopedic workshop and other income-generating initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and contractual obligations.
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
The ideal candidate should possess:
- A master’s degree in management or its equivalent, Disability, Development Studies, Public Administration, Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognised institution.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline.
- At least ten (10) years of progressive leadership and management experience, with a minimum of five (5) years at senior management level in a reputable NGO, social service organisation, health institution, or development organisation.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, organisational leadership, programme management, financial management, resource mobilisation, donor relations, and partnership development.
- Proven experience working in disability inclusion, child protection, rehabilitation, health, education, community development, or related sectors will be an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of NGO governance, donor compliance requirements, and the legal and regulatory environment for non-profit organisations in Uganda.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, networking, advocacy, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical, report-writing, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, accountability, and commitment to the rights and inclusion of children and young persons with disabilities.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office packages.
