Reports to: Exports Manager
Background
Fracht Uganda is a Swiss International Freight Forwarder that has been in existence since 1955; with its headquarters located in Basel, Switzerland. As a reputable Freight Forwarder, FRACHT has a worldwide network that stretches across all continents. We are in 115 countries worldwide; of which 16 of these are in Africa.
Responsibilities
- Export Planning & Capacity Management: Understand daily export truck requirements and ensure sufficient transport capacity is secured in line with shipment volumes and operational targets.
- Transporter Sourcing & Allocation: Liaise with the Transport Manager to identify, onboard, and allocate reliable transporters for both local shunting and long-haul export movements.
- Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all transporters are properly vetted, approved, and operating under valid, legally binding service agreements and required compliance documents.
- Truck Positioning & Movement Control: Coordinate with field staff and loading sites to ensure trucks are positioned on time for loading and closely monitored until gate-in at port.
- Tracking & Daily Reporting: Follow up proactively with transporters and drivers on truck positioning, loading status, transit progress, and port delivery. Prepare and circulate accurate daily export truck movement reports to the relevant teams.
- Market Transport Rate Monitoring: Maintain a strong awareness of market transport rates, capacity trends, fuel impacts, and competitor movements. Provide timely updates and recommendations to management for cost-effective planning and negotiations.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain professional, transparent, and productive relationships with transporters, ensuring smooth communication and long-term collaboration.
- Problem Solving & Escalation:
- Identify operational bottlenecks, delays, or capacity risks early and escalate with practical solutions to minimize disruption to export schedules.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration, Transport Management, or a related field
- A postgraduate qualification in logistics or supply chain management is an added advantage
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in logistics, transport coordination, or freight forwarding operations
- Proven experience in export logistics and truck coordination is required
- Experience working with transporters, fleet operations, and cross-border movements (e.g., Uganda to regional ports) is an added advantage
- Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Swahili is an added advantage
Technical Competencies
- Strong understanding of transport planning and capacity management
- Knowledge of export processes, transit procedures, and port operations
- Familiarity with transporter compliance requirements (contracts, insurance, permits, driver documentation)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking, reporting, and data analysis
- Experience using ERP or logistics management systems is an added advantage
Commercial & Industry Knowledge
- Good understanding of market transport rates and trends
- Ability to support cost control and rate negotiations
- Awareness of factors affecting transport operations (fuel prices, demand fluctuations, regulatory changes)
Soft Skills & Attributes
- Strong coordination and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in reporting
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to proactively identify and address operational challenges
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

- Ability to work beyond standard hours when required to support operations
