Job Overview
The Fish Health Technician supports fish health monitoring, laboratory analysis, and biosecurity oversight across hatchery, nursery, and grow-out operations. The role involves sample collection and analysis, supporting health trials, tracking sex ratios, and ensuring accurate data reporting to support informed decision-making and improved farm performance.
Key Responsibilities
Fish Health Sampling & Analysis
- Collect fish samples from hatchery, nursery, and grow-out stages according to established protocols.
- Conduct health assessments including external and internal examinations.
- Analyze and record fish health indicators and assist in identifying abnormalities.
- Support testing and tracking of sex ratios and report findings accurately.
Support Health Trials
- Support implementation of fish health and prophylactic trials.
- Assist in data collection, sampling, and adherence to trial protocols.
- Ensure proper handling and documentation of trial samples and results.
Biosecurity Monitoring
- Assess and report biosecurity risks and non-compliance observed across farm operations.
- Support implementation of biosecurity procedures and corrective actions.
Data Management & Reporting
- Record and enter data accurately into approved systems and templates.
- Prepare routine summaries and reports for review by the R&D Manager.
- Maintain organized, traceable records for audits and reference.
Laboratory Housekeeping & Support
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety within the laboratory.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of samples and materials.
- Assist in maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment in good working condition.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries & Aquaculture, Veterinary Medicine, Zoology, or a related field.
- 1–3 years’ experience in aquaculture, laboratory work, or fish health is an added advantage.
- Basic understanding of fish health, biosecurity, and sampling techniques.

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good data recording and reporting skills.
- Basic laboratory and fish handling skills.
- Ability to identify and report issues promptly.
- Organized and disciplined work approach.
