Reports To – Artistic Director, Finance & Administrator
Job Location – Bayimba Centre, Buikwe / Mukono

Bayimba Cultural Foundation is a multiple-branched organization that focuses on uplifting arts and culture in Uganda through cultural exchange and creativity. The Foundation hosts high-quality arts festivals, offers training courses and workshops for aspiring artists, and facilitates creative development. It strives to reach as wide an audience as possible, reaching all age groups and income levels. Bayimba is unique in its multidisciplinary approach combined with its engaging efforts to “explore and experience”.

The Organization is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Gender and Safeguarding Officer to lead the development, implementation, and management of its gender and safeguarding policies and procedures. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that Bayimba’s programs are safe, inclusive, and respectful of all participants, particularly women, girls, and vulnerable groups

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Gender and Safeguarding policy Development:
    • Develop and implement, and review Bayimba’s gender and safeguarding policies and procedures.
    • Ensure that policies are aligned with international best practices and Ugandan laws and regulations
  2. Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
    • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential safeguarding risks in Bayimba’s programmes
    • Develop and implement mitigating strategies to minimize risks
  3. Capacity Building:
    • Provide technical support and capacity building for Bayimba Staff on gender and safeguarding issues
    • Develop and implement training programmes for staff on gender and safeguarding-related topics
  4. Incident Reporting and Response:
    • Develop and implement incident reporting and response procedures
    • Ensure that incidents are reported and responded to in a timely and effective manner
  5. Collaboration and Partnership:
    • Collaborate with the programme staff, management, and external partners to ensure that gender and safeguarding issues are integrated into programmes design and implementation
    • Represent Bayimba in gender and safeguarding-related forums and networks

Requested qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, gender studies, human rights).
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in gender and safeguarding or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge in gender and safeguarding principles, methods, and tools
  • Experience working with vulnerable groups, particularly women and girls.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience with funders reporting and compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in the creative sector or with similar organizations.
  • Familiarity with Ugandan cultural context and development landscape.
  • Certification in gender and safeguarding or a related field.
