Background
The National Agricultural Research Organisation is established by the National Agricultural Research Act 2005 as a body corporate with the mandate to provide strategic direction for publicly funded agricultural research in Uganda. The organisation is composed of the Council as its governing body, Committees of Council, a Secretariat for its day-to-day operations with semi-autonomous Public Agricultural Research Institutes (PARI’s) under its policy guidance. The Director General invites suitably qualified Ugandans to apply for the following positions at PARIs and NARO Secretariat.
Responsibilities
- Manage Intellectual Property: Oversee the identification, protection, and commercialization of intellectual property (IP) generated by the institution (patents, trademarks, copyrights).
- Technology Transfer: Facilitate the transfer of technologies and innovations to the private sector, farmers, and other stakeholders.
- IP Policy Development: Develop and implement institutional IP policies and procedures.
- Patent Filing: Coordinate the drafting, filing, and prosecution of patent applications.
- Licensing & Commercialization: Negotiate and manage licensing agreements, confidentiality agreements, and material transfer agreements.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with industry partners, investors, and entrepreneurs to promote technology adoption.
- Capacity Building: Provide training to researchers on IP protection, technology transfer, and commercialization.
Tenure of Office
The tenure of office is a 5-year contract renewable upon satisfactory performance.
