Purpose of the Job:
To provide academic leadership in Clinical Legal Education through teaching, supervision, research, and practical legal skills training for undergraduate law students. The Lecturer will coordinate experiential learning programmes that bridge legal theory and practice, including legal aid clinics, moot court, internships, client interviewing, legal drafting, negotiation, mediation, and advocacy, while promoting access to justice and professional ethics.
Person Specification:
- Should have a Master of Laws from a recognized institution.
- Should have a Bachelor of Laws from a recognized institution with a minimum of 2nd Class Upper degree.
- Should have a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from LDC.
- Should have proven academic ability in research, publication, and teaching.
- Should be proficient in ICT, including legal research databases and learning management systems.
- Should have a minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience at a recognized academic institution of higher learning.
- Training or experience in Clinical Legal Education will be an added advantage.
- At least five (5) years of active legal practice.
- Demonstrated experience in practical legal skills training, moot court coaching, ADR, legal aid, or clinical legal education.
- Experience mentoring students and coordinating internships or practical legal training.
- Demonstrated competence in Clinical Legal Education methodologies and experiential learning.
- Strong advocacy, legal drafting, interviewing, counselling, negotiation, mediation, and trial advocacy skills.
- Ability to establish partnerships with legal institutions and stakeholders to support practical legal training.
