Uganda Christian University (UCU) is hiring

Responsibilities or duties

  • Prompt opening of the Hamu Mukasa library in the morning
  • Monitor library entrances, exits and spaces to prevent unauthorized access and ensure security.
  • Check bags and materials as necessary to prevent theft or misuse of library resources.
  • Ensure compliance with UCU and library policies regarding dressing, noise levels, food, and general conduct.
  • Report security incidents, lost items, or damages to the relevant authorities.
  • Manage the circulation of keys to specified spaces.
  • Liaise with university security personnel to enhance the safety of library users and property.
  • Assist new patrons in registering for library membership and issuing library cards.
  • Guide users on library policies, procedures, and available services.
  • Provide basic assistance in using library facilities, such as finding materials.
  • Ensure that the cleaning team maintains high sanitation standards in the library.
  • Monitor and report any cleanliness or maintenance issues that require attention.
  • Coordinate cleaning schedules to minimize disruptions to library users.
  • Assist in the circulation of library materials, including check-in and check-out services.
  • Assist in shelving returned books and ensure library materials are properly arranged.
  • Assist in locating and retrieving books for users as needed.
  • Any other related duties as assigned by supervisor or University Librarian

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • A Diploma in Library and information Science or in a related field.
  • Should have graduated not more than five years ago.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in relation to library technologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with academic staff, students, the ICT unit, and other stakeholders.
  • Should be a committed and practicing Christian.

Experience needed

  • 1 year’s work experience in library or related field will be an added advantage.
