JOB DETAILS:
Job Summary
The incumbent works with the Mpigi program team, and the rest of the Childs i staff in implementing the microfinance projects for grandmothers and the community in Mpigi District. He/she takes lead in planning, coordinating and implementing microfinance activities. They ensure the successful formation of microfinance groups, conduct rapid appraisal of beneficiaries and provision of skills training on small businesses and income generating activities to beneficiaries. The incumbent conducts regular visits to monitor progress and conduct timely reporting. The role aims to build a microfinance strategy that encourages and enables investment in agricultural, business, and other income-generating initiatives while building up grandmother resilience to shocks through savings, assets, and social capital.

Planning, Organizing and Management of MF related activities (50%)
• Develop work plans to ensure effective implementation of MF activities, while working closely with other microfinance staff, including taking on some supervisory roles as assigned by the program coordinator
• Technically lead to mobilise and establish MF groups in the selected communities
• Participate in beneficiary selection with relevant stakeholders
• Facilitate the identification and formation of MF groups among grandmothers and the community in general.
• Facilitate the establishment of village saving and loan groups (VSLAs) among the community, as a sustainability measure for the microfinance project and initiative.
• Plan and assess the microfinance needs of grandmothers, including undertaking an appraisal process for eligibility and qualification for loans by the applicants.
• Work with the procurement officer to ensure timely procurement of and delivery of the right quality and quantity of Microfinance kits and logistics.
• Witness and capture all data necessary on the disbursement of revolving funds to grandmother and other community groups.
• Identify technical capacity and challenges for vulnerable groups, skills, and knowledge they have in microfinance management, business development, and income-generating activities.
• Train Grandmothers and communities on VSLA methodology, including group governance and leadership

Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Reporting (40%)
• Manage and maintain the microfinance loan performer application
• Oversee and monitor the grandmother groups on share purchases, social contributions, borrowing, and repayment of loans to ensure proper documentation and record keeping.
• Ensure timely preparation and submission of activity budgets, work plans, and progress reports of microfinance to the grandmother coordinator.
• Conduct regular follow-up visits to grandmother groups, their IGAs, and to members to see if they are applying the practices, and provide technical advice and mentoring.
• Track the progress of the grandmother groups and keep records.
• Carry out regular meetings with beneficiary groups to assess performance at the group and project levels.
• Consolidate and compile monthly, quarterly and annual reports, inclusive of success stories and lessons learned.

Other (10 %)
• He/she is the secretary to the Revolving Fund Planning Committee (RPFC).
• Custodian of Microfinance meetings’ minutes and all microfinance records.
• Coordination of microfinance program in Mpigi District.
• Assist in solving any conflicts among microfinance group members together with social workers
• Facilitate and link MF groups to training on life skills such as basic literacy and numeracy, household financial affairs, risk management and planning.
• Link up groups and vulnerable families with government programs and technical support staff
• Facilitate and link MF groups to economic development and income-generating activities
• Attend team meetings
• Any other duties as may be assigned by the Manager

Qualification, Skills, and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in community development, business administration, accounts, microfinance, economics or a related field
• Minimum1-year experience in VSLA methodology, livelihoods and IGA methodology
• Experienced facilitator and trainer, with training materials development skills
• Working experience in resilience initiatives is highly preferred
• Willingness to travel and leave in several rural project locations
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and achieve results
• Experience working with non-governmental organizations and local communities and authorities
• Ability to use standard computing packages
• Knowledge of some languages spoken in Central Uganda like Luganda, English etc
