About Us
Joint Efforts to Save the Environment (JESE), is a national Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) established in 1993 with a desire to increase household food security, through sustainable agricultural production and livelihood improvement amongst the rural communities. Other JESE thematic areas of focus include Natural Resources Management, Governance and Energy, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Youth Skills Development. Our work spans 2 decades, operating in Western Uganda, Albertine region, and in Northern Uganda.

Care International in Uganda in partnership Joint Effort to Save the Environment (JESE) with funding from the Church of Jesus Christ of the Lataday Saints (LDS) is implementing a one-year project “Fill the Nutrition Gap” aimed at increasing the availability and consumption of nutritious foods for women, children and youth in the Kyaka II settlement.

Job Summary
The Project Officer – Nutrition will provide households extension and group trainings on vegetable production and management practices aimed at increasing availability, consumption of nutritious foods and adaptation of climate change through household home gardens by refugee households.
The Project Officer – Nutrition will collaborate with district health and healthcare facility teams, and other project team members (VHTs and Health Workers) and communities to ensure early identification, referral and management of malnutrition in beneficiary communities.

Specific Responsibilities
• Facilitate capacity building activities (mentorship, coaching, trainings) targeting group members, Community based facilitators (CBTs), health workers, village health teams and dist rict health teams on nutrition, home gardening
• Facilitate trainings groups in VSLA methodology, post-harvest handling and collective marketing.
• Facilitate planning and review meetings with VHTs, Health workers and community based trainers(CBTs) to undertake specific project activities.
• Work with the Assistant Project Officer – Animal Husbandry in the planning and mobilization of groups and beneficiaries for distribution of livestock and other inputs provided by the project.
• Coordinate with the institution Gender Officer, District Gender and Nutrition Focal Persons to conduct gender specific activities including men in the kitchen campaigns and gender dialogues among others.
• Facilitate establish of nutrition sensitive and climate smart demonstration gardens
• Coordinate beneficiary identification and profiling
• Liaise with local government institutions and technical staff especially at Sub County level to offer supplementary technical support and advice to the target beneficiaries.
• Prepare concept notes and action plans
• Attend stakeholder meetings at district level, OPM and UNHCR
• Identify and document success/change stories from the project beneficiaries
• Compile activity reports
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Coordinator

Education Requirement
The applicant must hold a Bachelor degree in Nutrition or related field from a recognized institute

Working Experience
At least three years’ experience working with NGOs and extensive knowledge and experience in implementation of community nutrition. Good understanding of nutrition and gender dynamics is paramount. S/he should possess excellent documentation, communication and report writing skills. Fluency in English; knowledge of other languages spoken in the target areas (Kyaka 11 refugee settlement) is considered an asset.
