Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Senior Lecturer – Computer Science.

Role

The Senior Lecturer – Computer Science shall report to the Head of Department, Computing, AI and Data Science and shall:

  • Provide academic leadership in Computer Science teaching, research and innovation.
  • Deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Computer Science and related disciplines.
  • Promote excellence in research, scholarly publication, postgraduate supervision and curriculum development.
  • Mentor junior academic staff and contribute to the strategic growth of the Department.
  • Support industry collaboration, innovation and community engagement in computing and digital technologies.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department, Dean or University Management.

Purpose of the Job

To contribute to excellence in Computer Science education through high-quality teaching, applied research, innovation, postgraduate supervision and industry collaboration; strengthen the Department's research culture and academic programmes; and support the University's mission of producing competent computing professionals capable of addressing national, regional and global technological challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate shall:

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computer Science, including software engineering, programming, algorithms, operating systems, databases, computer networks, cybersecurity, cloud computing and related areas according to their area of expertise.
  • Prepare course outlines, teaching materials, laboratory practicals, assessments and examinations in accordance with university policies and quality assurance standards.
  • Supervise undergraduate final-year projects and supervise or co-supervise Master's students to successful completion.
  • Conduct high-quality research and publish in reputable peer-reviewed journals, indexed conference proceedings and other recognised scholarly platforms.
  • Participate in curriculum development, programme review and accreditation processes to ensure compliance with National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) requirements and international best practices.
  • Mentor Lecturers, Assistant Lecturers and Teaching Assistants in teaching, research, publication and professional development.
  • Participate in departmental administration, examination moderation, quality assurance and other academic activities.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with industry, government agencies and research institutions to promote internships, collaborative research and innovation.
  • Contribute to departmental outreach initiatives, including coding competitions, hackathons, innovation exhibitions, cybersecurity awareness programmes and community digital literacy initiatives.
  • Prepare and contribute to research grant proposals, consultancy projects and innovation initiatives.
  • Participate in departmental, School and University committees and contribute to academic governance.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the University Management.

Candidate Specification

Academic Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must possess:

  • An earned PhD in Computer Science or a closely related computing discipline from a recognised university.
  • A Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related computing discipline.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant post-PhD academic and/or industry experience, including at least two (2) years of full-time university teaching.
  • A minimum of three (3) peer-reviewed publications (journal articles, indexed conference papers or scholarly book chapters) since the award of the PhD.
  • Demonstrated experience or active involvement in postgraduate supervision.
  • Evidence of continuing research activity and participation in funded research, consultancy or innovation projects will be an added advantage.

Remuneration

An attractive remuneration package shall be offered in accordance with King Ceasor University's Terms and Conditions of Service.

Tenure

The Senior Lecturer – Computer Science shall hold office in accordance with the University's Terms and Conditions of Service and subject to satisfactory performance.
