About US:
The African Centre for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture Victims (ACTV) is a Non-Governmental organization in Uganda which commenced operations in 1993 whose mandate includes advocacy against torture and provision of physical and psychological treatment and rehabilitation, social support and legal services to survivors of torture.

Job Summary: The Social Worker will provide appropriate services and empowerment of torture survivor by engaging people and structures to address life challenges and enhance wellbeing.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conduct interview and provide psychological support to torture survivors as individuals, families and groups through counselling and home visits.
• Develop care plans and counselling service to the survivors of torture
• Conduct client review and follow up in their communities and families to assess and monitor progress.
• Provide social economic support to the clients in terms of basic necessities.
• Offering information and support to service users and their families.
• Counsel clients and patients in individual and group sessions to help them overcome dependencies, recover from illness, and adjust to life.
• Receive and screen clients to ensure they are survivors of torture for any physical, mental and psychological problem.
• Investigate survivors of torture or neglected cases and take authorised protective action when necessary
• Advocate for clients or patients to resolve the crisis.
• Collaborate with other professionals to evaluate patient’s medical or physical condition and to assess client needs.
• Make follow ups to review healing and coping progress and plan termination/discharge.

Offer community support to target group.
• Formation of the groups, orientation of the members to the purpose of the group.
• Make follow ups to review the progress of the group towards achieving their goal.
• Evaluate the impact and plan termination/discharge.
• Participate in the planning and budgeting for the Social work department as per ACTV guidelines.
• Contribute to proposal writing and any other ACTV Fundraising Initiatives
• Carry out provisional diagnosis/ assessment of the clients, for any physical, mental, legal and psychological problems and refer them appropriately.
• Carry out and explain treatment plans to patients and their families
• Refer the patients appropriately
• Provide support during awareness/sensitisation workshops for communities and security officers on human rights and torture as per agreed plan.
• Carry out any other work-related duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
• Prepare clients for voluntary counselling and testing.
• Prepare and produce periodic reports for the unit as per the agreed timelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the program Manager.

• Preparing for counselling for survivors of torture
• Preparation of reports

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• The applicant must hold a Bachelors Degree in Social work and Social Administration, Social Sciences, psychology, or any other Degree in Humanities
• At least three years of relevant work experience in an NGO.
• Aged between 25 – 35years
