On behalf of Our client in the manufacturing sector, we are looking for competent and experienced Stores and Warehouse-In-charge to be based in Kampala
Reports To: Operations Manager
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda.
Job Summary: The Stores and Warehouse In-Charge is responsible for overseeing the efficient management of inventory, storage, and distribution operations in the company. This role ensures the safe handling, accurate tracking, and timely availability of raw materials (such as pigments, solvents, resins, and additives), finished products, and packaging materials.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Inventory Management
- Oversee the receipt, storage, and issuance of all materials, including raw chemicals, paints, and packaging.
- Conduct regular stock audits, cycle counts, and reconciliations to maintain accurate inventory levels and prevent discrepancies.
Warehouse Operations
- Manage day-to-day warehouse activities, including loading/unloading, picking, packing, and dispatching of goods.
- Optimize layout for efficient space utilization and implement FIFO (First-In-First-Out) systems to handle perishable or hazardous materials like solvents.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations, particularly for handling hazardous substances (e.g., flammable paints and chemicals).
- Implement safety protocols, conduct risk assessments, and maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all stored items.
Team Leadership
- Supervise a team of warehouse staff, including training, performance evaluations, and scheduling. Foster a culture of efficiency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Supply Chain Coordination
- Collaborate with procurement, production, and sales teams to forecast material needs, manage stock replenishment, and resolve supply issues.
- Monitor supplier deliveries for quality and timeliness.
Cost Control and Efficiency
- Identify opportunities to reduce storage costs, minimize waste (e.g., expired materials), and improve processes through lean methodologies or inventory software.
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare reports on inventory status, turnover rates, and operational metrics. Maintain accurate records using ERP systems or warehouse management software.
Quality Assurance
- Inspect incoming and outgoing materials for quality compliance, ensuring they meet company standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO certifications).
Equipment Maintenance
- Oversee the maintenance and safe operation of warehouse equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and shelving systems.
Emergency Response
- Develop and implement contingency plans for emergencies, such as spills, fires, or supply disruptions in a chemical-heavy environment.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Supply Chain Professional - CSCP, or OSHA Hazardous Materials Handling) is an advantage
- 3-5 years’ experience in warehouse or stores management preferably in a paint manufacturing setting, or similar industries.
- Proven experience handling hazardous materials is essential.
- Proficiency in inventory management software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems)
- Strong leadership and communication abilities, with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions.
