JOB DETAILS:
We are recruiting for a Strategic Communications Junior Associate, Mobilisations. This role involves working with protest movements and people centred organisations to help them communicate popular demand for climate action in an effective and strategic manner.

Working closely with a small team you will help support initiatives in global protest movements, including the youth climate movement. You’ll need to be a self-starter and have a genuine interest in climate justice and activism. You'll need to be a great communicator and a diplomat, who can generate and execute ideas.

You'll be working as part of a fast-paced, global team that operates in multiple media markets and on multiple platforms. You’ll be comfortable with different cultures and political perspectives, with an understanding of how to place good stories to create political impact.

This role might suit someone with a background in communications, journalism, campaigning or activism. If this sounds like you, please apply! We are especially keen to receive applications from candidates in, or with strong links to, the Global South.

How you'll contribute

• Supporting partners in the youth climate movement with media logistics, such as arranging interviews and press conferences, and drafting press releases and other written content.
• Supporting the development and implementation of communications strategies related to climate protest movements.
• Undertaking media monitoring and analysis, maintaining and building media lists, and other research tasks.
• Creating social media content for partners.
• Researching and building relationships with new movements, with an eye to providing impactful strategic communications support.
• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with key correspondents and editors in mainstream and specialist media for pro-active promotion of stories, outreach on emerging issues and reactive media management.
• Working with a global network to deliver relevant communications content and collateral.
• Undertaking some administrative tasks, including helping to organise a coalition of partners working in the climate mobilisation space.

What you'll bring

• The versatile and adaptable skills necessary to flourish in a fast-paced work environment working across time zones, phone/video conferencing, Slack, email, Trello, etc.
• A commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change.

Desirable:

• Connections in the international climate movement, particularly among movements in the Global South and/or frontline communities.
• Experience working with the media and contacts in international media.
