General Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced ultrasonographer to perform high-quality diagnostic tests for research studies. This will include ultrasound/doppler studies of the cranial vasculature, lungs, heart, and inferior vena cava with a strong focus on transcranial doppler (TCD) and carotid doppler examinations; prior experience in this area is preferred
The successful candidate will also be responsible for performing a variety of additional diagnostic tests, including retinal imaging using fundoscopy and high-quality optical coherence tomography (OCT). Additional training and skill building will be provided to ensure standardized and image acquisition for ultrasound studies and training in all retinal imaging for otherwise qualified candidates
The technologist will be an integral member of the research team and will work closely with the medical doctors neurologists and vascular surgeons to provide critical diagnostic information for the assessment and treatment of cerebrovascular disease, intravascular volume status, and hemodynamic instability
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complete and accurate non-invasive vascular ultrasound examinations, adhering to established protocols.
- Specialize in carotid duplex and transcranial doppler (TCD) studies for the evaluation of blood flow in the major arteries of the head and neck.
- Conduct other vascular studies as needed, including peripheral arterial and venous exams.
- Perform all required diagnostic testing for patients, including OCT, visual fields, fundus photography, and corneal topography.
- Participate in a curriculum to establish competency in acquiring point-of-care images of the heart, lungs, and inferior vena cava.
- Effectively operate and maintain specialized ultrasound equipment, optimizing settings for image quality and data acquisition.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Educate patients and their families about the procedure to ensure comfort and cooperation.
- Operate and maintain the OCT machine to capture detailed 3D images of the retina, macula, and optic nerve.
- Calibrate and troubleshoot ophthalmic equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
- Record and manage patient data accurately within the practice's electronic health records (EHR) system.
- Assist in patient workups, including taking medical history and completing preliminary exams
- Provide patients with clear instructions on diagnostic tests and ensure their comfort during procedures.
- Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure timely and effective patient care
Academic Qualifications
- Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or equivalent credentialing.
- Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
