Background

Kilimo Trust (KT) is co‑implementing the Women and Youth Economic Empowerment in Fisheries through Inclusive Market Access (WYEEFIMA) programme. The programme is led by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat and TradeMark Africa, with funding from the Mastercard Foundation. Its objective is to economically empower women and youth aged 18–35 by strengthening their participation in cross‑border fish trade. To support programme implementation in Uganda, Kilimo Trust is recruiting Village‑Based Advisors (VBAs) to work within local communities. Twelve (12) qualified candidates are invited to submit their application letters and CVs to the KT‑WYEEFIMA Programme. Additional details are provided below.

Roles of the VBA under the WYEEFIMA programme:

  • Act as the primary link between the Program and communities in districts to support engagement and job creation.
  • Mobilize and Enroll women, youth, men, associations, and MSMEs into the designated digital data collection platform (ODK).
  • Conduct last mile training in fish post-harvest handling (PHH), food processing and value addition using agreed methods.
  • Track volumes and value of fish and fish products traded across borders in collaboration with relevant authorities and Resident Associates.
  • Support M&E activities, submit success stories, and provide timely field activity reports.
  • Participate in distribution and follow up of co financed start up kits and monitor enterprise development.
  • Work closely with area Association partners, local leaders, district fisheries officers, and participate in trainings, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Attend meetings, field activities, and mandatory weekly coordination calls.
  • Ensure adherence to Kilimo Trust procedures, maintain regular communication with Resident Associates, and provide community feedback and documentation.
  • Carrying pre-training and post-training assessments and submitting it to ODK/KOB

Qualifications and Experience:

Ideal Candidate Profile – Village‑Based Advisor (VBA):

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Food Science and Technology, or a related field.
  • At least one (1) year of relevant experience in food processing, fish inspection, farmer training, data collection, community development, or field‑based project implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in local languages spoken in the duty area is an added advantage.
  • Must be a resident of the Sub‑County or Town Council where the position is based.
  • Qualified female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Duty Station

Candidates must be residents of the specified locations and will be based there, working within the assigned areas in line with programme and operational priorities. Preference will be given to applicants originating from the listed villages or sub‑counties within the respective districts.

Duration and Timeline:

The assignment is expected to be completed within a period of Three (03)Months.

Reporting and Supervision:

The VBA will report directly to the Program Assistant.
