Job Description

Operate the factory Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) by regulating biological aeration tanks, pH neutralization processes, and sludge dewatering systems.

Ensure factory wastewater processing reliably meets all environmental standards, quality conditions, and NEMA discharge specifications.

Deliver end to end operational accountability through continuous process monitoring, risk control, thorough record keeping, and coordination with upstream departments.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operate ETP machinery, pumps, and treatment stations following approved start up, running, changeover, shutdown, and cleaning procedures.
  • Regulate biological aeration tanks, pH neutralization systems, and sludge dewatering units within authorized operating limits.
  • Perform required chemical and analytical tests on effluent, including BOD, COD, and pH measurements, recording values accurately at the time of testing.
  • Conduct routine inspections of work areas, safety guards, pump performance, and operating parameters to detect and correct deviations early.
  • Separate and contain defective material or off spec wastewater flows promptly to prevent uncontrolled discharge or operational delays.
  • Maintain complete, legible, and traceable shift logs, test records, checklists, and incident reports for operational transparency and audits.
  • Execute cleaning, changeover, and sanitation tasks across the plant while safeguarding tools, machinery parts, and treatment equipment.
  • Follow all occupational health, safety, environmental, and emergency standards, including proper PPE usage and prompt hazard escalation.

Skills

  • Effluent chemical testing and analysis, including BOD, COD, and pH monitoring.
  • Operation and basic troubleshooting of industrial pumps, aeration systems, and sludge dewatering equipment.
  • Practical application of NEMA effluent discharge standards and environmental compliance rules.
  • Process control monitoring and rapid defect or hazard recognition.
  • Accurate technical documentation, shift reporting, and basic digital data entry.

Education Qualifications & Experience

Education Qualifications

  • Degree or Ordinary Diploma in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Technology, or Water Science.
  • Ordinary Diploma, National Diploma, or TVET training in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Food Processing, Production Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, or Applied Sciences.
  • National Certificate, Craft Certificate, Technical Trade Certificate, or documented machine specific training from a recognized employer or equipment supplier.
  • UCE or UACE trainee entry route demonstrating strong literacy, numeracy, safety awareness, physical capability, and successful completion of company training.

  • 1+ year operating industrial wastewater or municipal treatment plants.
