The Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers (UIPE), in collaboration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB), announces a special initiative to support the registration of Senior Engineers and Managing Directors who have made significant contributions to the engineering profession but are not yet registered.
This initiative follows extensive stakeholder engagements and is guided by the Special Assessment Criteria Matrix for Senior Engineers, approved by the 20th ERB Board at its 405th Meeting on 24 September 2025. The matrix provides a structured framework for evaluating applications during this dedicated two-year registration window, enabling experienced engineers to formalize and regularize their professional status.
Applicants must:
a) Have over 15 years of engineering practice with demonstrable contributions in practice, leadership, management, innovation, or technical advancement.
b) Meet the requirements of the Engineers Registration Act, Cap 299 (a Holder of a Bachelor's degree, Diploma or Licence of a University or School of Engineering reviewed and assessed by Board and then accredited by NCHE, or any other awards recognized by the Board as furnishing a sufficient guarantee of an adequate academic training in engineering are eligible for registration, and among others)
c) Provide verifiable professional experience and competence, including specialized technical expertise and milestone achievements.
d) Demonstrate managerial and leadership experience.
e) Show contributions to cross-cutting issues relevant to the profession.
f) Demonstrate recognized professional standing and contributions.
Applicants must submit:
a) A formal Expression of Interest letter covering a brief of the eligibility under 1 above, addressed to the President, UIPE.
All submissions shall be made through UIPE electronically through projects@uipe.co.ug and info@uipe.co.ug.
The special registration window will remain open for two years (Starting 16th March 2026 to 16th March 2028). Eligible Senior Engineers are encouraged to apply.
