On behalf of our client in the manufacturing sector, we are seeking a competent and experienced Compensation & Benefits Officer to be based in Kampala, Uganda.
Reports To: The Human Resources Manager
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Job Summary: The Compensation & Benefits officer shall be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing competitive compensation and benefits programs that attract, retain, and motivate employees while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Compensation Management
- Assist in developing and maintaining salary scales, pay structures, and grading systems.
- Support job evaluation processes and internal equity reviews.
- Conduct market salary surveys and analyze pay trends.
Benefits Administration
- Coordinate employee benefit programs including medical insurance, retirement plans, and employee wellness initiatives.
- Manage administration of leave, gratuity, and other employee entitlements.
- Liaise with insurance providers and benefits vendors.
Payroll & Compliance Support
- Work closely with the payroll team to ensure accurate processing of compensation changes.
- Ensure compliance with labor legislation and statutory deductions (NSSF, PAYE, etc.).
- Participate in payroll and HR audits.
Reporting & Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate employee records related to compensation and benefits.
- Prepare periodic reports on compensation costs and benefits utilization.
Employee Support
- Respond to employee inquiries related to pay, deductions, and benefits.
- Support HR initiatives related to employee engagement and retention.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related field.
- Appreciation of Sage 300 is an added advantage.
- At least 3-5 years post qualification experience as a Compensation & Benefits Officer, or a related role.
- Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
- Proficiency in MS Office tools, especially Excel.
Barriers to Success in Role
- Limited or lack of knowledge about HR/Payroll system.
- Inability to understand labor laws & compliance.
