Background

Dalilang Foods & Beverages is a Ugandan FMCG manufacturer producing packaged snacks, including potato crisps, gonja chips, coated peanuts and peanut butter, alongside spring water, fruit nectars and energy drinks.

Role Context

Supports factory operations by controlling, segregating, recording, and disposing of waste responsibly. Maintains environmental compliance by preventing contamination, safeguarding recyclables, and monitoring factory drainage and storage areas.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Monitor designated waste collection points to ensure proper segregation of plastics, paper, metal, organics, general waste, and hazardous materials without mixing.
• Inspect waste containers to ensure they are accurately labelled, covered where required, and emptied before overflowing.
• Weigh or measure waste movements and log detailed records of waste types, quantities, and transfer destinations.
• Preserve the value of recyclable materials by keeping them clean and separated from other waste streams.
• Isolate hazardous materials, ensuring chemical containers, oily waste, laboratory materials, batteries, and contaminated absorbents do not enter ordinary waste streams.
• Inspect factory drains, scrap yards, waste storage areas, and loading points for leaks, litter, blockages, or unauthorized disposal.
• Collect readings from installed water and waste flow meters and file documentation received from licensed waste contractors.
• Refer unusual chemical, regulatory, or pollution incidents promptly to qualified environmental or HSE staff.

Education Qualifications & Experience

Education Qualifications

• Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma, National Diploma, National Certificate, technical certificate, or vocational qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Public Health, Environmental Health, Waste Management, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Agriculture, Sustainability, or related fields.
• Recognized environmental training credentials.
• Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) for trainee entry accompanied by comprehensive company environmental training.

Experience

• No prior work experience required.
• Includes comprehensive onboarding training covering waste categories, environmental risks, recycling, hazardous waste, spill response, documentation, PPE, contractor handover, and basic environmental compliance.
