About the Opportunity:
The Agrifood System Transformation for Youth Employment (ASTYE) program in Uganda is a transformative initiative designed to address systemic challenges hindering agricultural development and youth employment, particularly for young women. Funded by the Mastercard Foundation and implemented in partnership with DSG, AGRA, and GOAL, ASTYE aims to create dignified and fulfilling work opportunities for young people while strengthening Uganda's agrifood ecosystem. The Finance Officer is responsible for supporting the Operations Department in maintaining financial integrity, ensuring compliance with DSG’s policies and Ugandan statutory requirements, and providing timely and accurate financial reporting. The role will contribute to effective budget management, donor compliance, and operational efficiency, enabling DSG to deliver its programs with accountability and transparency. As Finance Officer working closely with the Director of Finance and operations, you will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audits, managing budgets, and contributing to operational excellence.
In This Role, You Will Make An Impact By:
Financial Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and donors.
- Ensure timely posting, reconciliation, and closure of accounts.
- Support external and internal audits by preparing required documentation.
- Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets.
- Ensure compliance with DSG’s financial policies, donor requirements, and Ugandan tax laws.
- Process payments, receipts, and journal entries in line with approved procedures.
- Support payroll preparation and ensure statutory deductions are remitted on time.
- Maintain proper filing of financial documents and strengthen internal controls.
Operational Responsibilities
- Support procurement processes by reviewing requisitions, preparing bid analyses, and ensuring compliance with procurement thresholds.
- Assist in managing logistics for program activities, including travel arrangements, transport scheduling, and asset tracking.
- Oversee inventory and supplies management to ensure accountability and availability.
- Provide administrative support including document management, filing systems, and coordination of office resources.
- Collaborate with HR and program teams to ensure smooth operational support for staff and activities.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives within Finance and Operations to enhance efficiency and compliance.
To Succeed In This Role, You Bring:
Education & Professional Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Professional qualification (CPA, ACCA) is an added advantage.
- 5–8 years’ experience in finance and operations within an NGO or corporate setting.
- Strong knowledge of Ugandan tax laws, donor compliance, and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel.

- High integrity and commitment to accountability.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
