Description
The General Manager is accountable for the overall performance, risk, growth, and profitability of the business. The GM is expected to maintain a high-quality and sustainable loan portfolio, deliver the approved P&L and budget, protect liquidity, strengthen customer experience and market presence, and ensure that the institution operates within approved risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and Board-approved strategy.
Responsibilities
- Own and manage overall portfolio quality, ensuring PAR, arrears, and credit risk remain within approved appetite.
- Deliver the annual budget and P&L, driving revenue growth, cost discipline, and sustainable profitability.
- Direct end-to-end microfinance operations, from customer acquisition through disbursement, servicing, and collections.
- Ensure full regulatory, AML/CFT, and KYC compliance, and resolve audit and risk findings within agreed timelines.
- Manage liquidity, cash flow, and funding sources to support disbursements and maintain prudent leverage.
- Lead business development and market expansion, driving customer acquisition, cross-selling, and commercial targets.
- Champion digital lending initiatives, partnering with technology teams to strengthen decisioning, automation, and controls.
- Translate Group strategy into actionable operating plans, budgets, and execution milestones.
- Build and lead a high-performing management team through clear KPIs, coaching, and succession planning.
- Deliver accurate, decision-ready reporting to the Group CEO and Board on performance, risk, and strategic execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Banking, Commerce (B.Com) or a related field
- 7+ years of progressive management experience
- Professional qualification/training in credit, finance, risk, banking, or microfinance
- Meaningful leadership experience in microfinance, banking, digital lending, or SACCOs
