About the Role

Buwama Hospital is seeking a qualified and compassionate Licensed Midwife to join its maternity team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality maternal and newborn care, support women throughout pregnancy, labour, and the postnatal period, and contribute to the delivery of safe, patient-centered healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities

Maternal & Newborn Care

  • Provide antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care in accordance with professional standards.
  • Monitor the health and wellbeing of mothers and newborns during labour and delivery.
  • Conduct normal deliveries and provide immediate newborn care.
  • Identify obstetric emergencies and initiate appropriate interventions or referrals.
  • Educate mothers and families on newborn care, breastfeeding, nutrition, family planning, and postnatal recovery.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Assess patients, monitor vital signs, and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments within the scope of practice.
  • Maintain infection prevention and control standards in the maternity unit.
  • Ensure proper handling and maintenance of medical equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in health promotion and community education activities where required.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient care.
  • Participate in ward rounds, handovers, and clinical meetings.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold professional ethics at all times.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Certificate or Diploma in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
  • Valid registration and practising licence with the relevant professional regulatory body.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or maternity setting is an added advantage.
  • Sound knowledge of maternal and newborn healthcare practices.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
