About the Role
Buwama Hospital is seeking a qualified and compassionate Licensed Midwife to join its maternity team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality maternal and newborn care, support women throughout pregnancy, labour, and the postnatal period, and contribute to the delivery of safe, patient-centered healthcare services.
Key Responsibilities
Maternal & Newborn Care
- Provide antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care in accordance with professional standards.
- Monitor the health and wellbeing of mothers and newborns during labour and delivery.
- Conduct normal deliveries and provide immediate newborn care.
- Identify obstetric emergencies and initiate appropriate interventions or referrals.
- Educate mothers and families on newborn care, breastfeeding, nutrition, family planning, and postnatal recovery.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Assess patients, monitor vital signs, and maintain accurate medical records.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments within the scope of practice.
- Maintain infection prevention and control standards in the maternity unit.
- Ensure proper handling and maintenance of medical equipment and supplies.
- Participate in health promotion and community education activities where required.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient care.
- Participate in ward rounds, handovers, and clinical meetings.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold professional ethics at all times.
Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate or Diploma in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration and practising licence with the relevant professional regulatory body.
- Previous experience in a hospital or maternity setting is an added advantage.
- Sound knowledge of maternal and newborn healthcare practices.
- Good communication, interpersonal, and clinical decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

- Starting Salary: UGX 300,000 per month
