Description

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the role is responsible for preparing and coordinating the production of the Bank’s financial reports in line with the Group’s accounting policies, regulatory framework and managing risk through a fully reconciled balance sheet.

To ensure adequate availability and correct utilization of long term funds, manage relationships with funders and optimize interest expense through proactive tracking and forecasting of funding requirements, funding mix and cost of funds.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Balance sheet management – Ensure the balance sheet of the bank is fully reconciled on a monthly basis and proactively follow up on issues arising from the review.
  • General ledger maintenance – Controlled opening of GL accounts, closure of inactive GL accounts, monitoring of GL accounts and creating of charts of accounts for new branches.
  • Co-ordinate all external audits.
  • Liaise with external / internal auditors to implement recommendations from all audits undertaken.
  • Provide guidance to the HR team in the preparation of the monthly payroll and manage the timely filing of all payroll related returns.

Financial Reporting

  • Preparation of the statutory accounts on a semi-annual basis.
  • Provide an oversight role on the preparation and submission of the daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly BOU returns.

Funds management

  • Act as the primary contact in managing relationships with long-term funders.
  • Manage the reporting to the funders in line with their respective financial covenants and submission by the set timelines.
  • Funds administration, including the fulfilling of conditions precedent, draw downs, confirmation of interest rates, principal and interest payments, reconciliations, etc.
  • Tracking of interest expense and funding mix.
  • Managing the borrowing accounts (setting up, changing interest rates, part closure).

Staff supervision

  • Effective supervision of the finance officers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • University graduate in Accounting or Finance.
  • Fully qualified in Accounting profession with a recognized institute (ACCA, CPA, CIMA).
  • At least eight years’ experience working in a Finance department, with four years at a senior level in a Financial institution.
  • Industry knowledge of the Banking sector, knowledge of IFRS and Ugandan tax legislation, and Financial Institutions Act (FIA) 2004 and Amendments.
  • Fluency in spoken/written English.
  • Good computer literacy with excellent use MS Office.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Process oriented.
  • Good computer literacy with excellent use MS Office.
  • Strong analytical and numeracy skills.
  • Good communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive self-starter able to work under own initiative.
