The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is a Ugandan not-for-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen health systems in Africa, with strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development. IDI has six operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research, Laboratory services (including the CAP-certified IDI Core Lab & Translational Lab), Global Health Security and Health System Strengthening.
Students intending to pursue their internships with IDI and volunteers should submit their applications through this HR online application Portal.
General Summary
To provide medical care, treatment and prevention to clients and their care takers (most especially HIV/AIDS clients), and contribute to continuous professional development in line with Good clinical practices
Key Responsibilities
Provide clinical assessment and evaluation of health of clients and provide proper individualized patient centered care and treatment in line with Good clinical practices
- Prepare and submit periodic activity work plans, monthly timesheets and periodic reports to key stakeholders in line with Health facility targets.
- Provide appropriate advice, health education and counselling to patients.
- Monitor implementation of comprehensive HIV care packages at HFs as per the set targets.
- Conduct pharmacovigilance procedures and monitor disease progression while providing appropriate management including referral for complicated cases to higher levels of management and for community follow up in line with Good clinical practices and National drug authority guidelines
- Develop patient management plans for TB Clients as per the client’s T.B status and follow them up until they normalize in line with Good clinical practices
- Perform the roles of a Quality improvement team member and monitor implementation of QI projects for HF in liaison with the HF in charge in line with MoH guidelines for QI
- Prepare and present periodic findings regarding critical cases n at case conferences, and Health facility continuous medical education sessions as per clinicians’ schedule to promote in continuous professional development.
- Provide technical support to at least three to four small volume health facilities in his or her catchment area.
Academic Qualifications
Diploma Diploma in Clinical medicine and community health or equivalent
Active registration with the Allied health professionals’ council
Person Specification
Diploma in Clinical medicine and community health or equivalent
- Active registration with the Allied health professionals’ council
- At least two years of experience in clinic or hospital-based services.
- Experience in HIV/AIDS and ART management is an added advantage.
- Willingness to work and live in rural areas is required.
