Background

The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage electricity distribution networks. The company sales and distributes electricity in Uganda as per ERA License issued on 31 December 2024 covering over 135 political districts, operates a modern pole plant at Lugogo, and executes key rural electrification schemes on behalf of the Government of Uganda.

Job Purpose

To execute day to day metering projects and operations activities including site surveys, installation, replacement, commissioning, maintenance and investigation of metering systems and associated equipment in line with approved procedures, safety requirements and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out site surveys, material verification and technical preparations for metering projects, customer connections, upgrades and meter replacement works.
  • Install, replace, commission, inspect, maintain and troubleshoot meters and associated metering equipment.
  • Support execution of metering CAPEX and operational works including network modification works requiring metering intervention.
  • Verify wiring, meter parameters, CT/PT ratios, polarity and associated installation details to ensure accurate measurement and billing.
  • Conduct field investigations to resolve metering faults, anomalies, exceptions and customer complaints.
  • Identify, report and support investigation of meter tamper, bypass, unsafe conditions and other irregularities observed in the field.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate site survey records, commissioning reports, meter return documentation and other required operational reports.
  • Ensure proper custody, handling and accountability of meters, seals, tools and materials assigned for field activities.
  • Ensure metering installations comply with approved standards, specifications, safety requirements and company procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned from time to time for the company.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a reputable institution.

Experience

  • At least two (2) year's post qualification experience in; Metering projects, metering operations, installation, commissioning or field technical support.
  • Ability to work confidently with MS Office packages and systems.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good troubleshooting, analytical and field reporting skills.
  • Good understanding of metering installations, wiring configurations and safety requirements.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills.

Personal Attributes/Competencies:

  • Integrity.
  • Attention to detail and process control abilities.
  • Team work.
  • Self-starter and motivated.
  • Results oriented.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
