Background

Dalilang Foods & Beverages is a Ugandan FMCG manufacturer producing packaged snacks, including potato crisps, gonja chips, coated peanuts and peanut butter, alongside spring water, fruit nectars and energy drinks.

Responsibilities

Oversee the end to end planning and execution of weekly and monthly preventive maintenance schedules across all snack plant machinery. Supervise the technical maintenance team and manage shift activities to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime without compromising quality or safety. Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement by maintaining traceable maintenance records and resolving technical disruptions promptly.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Plan and execute weekly and monthly preventive maintenance schedules for all snack plant machinery.
• Allocate shift tasks according to technician competence and maintain a visible presence to ensure critical work is completed safely and correctly.
• Respond rapidly to equipment stoppages, production losses, and technical deviations, protecting food safety and equipment integrity during recovery.
• Enforce strict adherence to approved operating procedures, safety rules, cleaning standards, and equipment isolation protocols.
• Maintain complete, traceable, and legible maintenance logs, machine histories, shift handovers, and compliance records.
• Coordinate maintenance windows and task priorities closely with production and dependent departments to prevent delays.
• Track maintenance performance metrics, investigate recurring equipment breakdowns, and implement root cause corrective actions.
• Manage spare parts, tools, and technical resources responsibly to control costs and eliminate preventable waste.

Qualifications & Experience

Education Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial or Production Engineering, Operations Management, or a closely related technical discipline
• Ordinary Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field paired with substantial supervisory and practical maintenance experience
• Relevant UBTEB, TVET, professional technical, safety, quality, or supervisory certifications, or equivalent accredited qualifications

Experience

• 4+ years managing maintenance schedules in manufacturing.

• Proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and digital recordkeeping
• Practical expertise in machinery overhaul and mechanical or electrical diagnostics
• Spare parts planning and inventory control
• Shift supervision, task delegation, and operational problem solving
• Application of occupational health, food hygiene, and equipment isolation safety standards
