Job Purpose
The Reconciliations Officer ensures the integrity and accuracy of Sure Pay’s financial records by reconciling bank accounts, mobile money wallets, payment platforms, and internal ledgers. The role is central to safeguarding company assets, preventing fraud, and supporting compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.
Responsibilities
Daily Reconciliations
- Perform daily reconciliations of all bank accounts, mobile money platforms, and payment processors.
- Match internal transaction records against external statements to identify variances.
- Maintain detailed reconciliation logs and adjustment schedules.
Variance Investigation & Resolution
- Investigate discrepancies and resolve outstanding reconciling items quickly.
- Liaise with banks, payment providers, and internal teams (operations, customer service, and finance) to clear variances.
- Escalate unresolved or high-risk discrepancies to the Finance Manager and CFO.
Internal Controls & Safeguarding Assets
- Enforce adherence to reconciliation policies and procedures.
- Ensure segregation of duties and integrity in handling reconciliations.
- Flag anomalies or suspicious transactions to support fraud prevention and asset protection.
Reporting
- Prepare and circulate reconciliation reports (daily, weekly, and monthly) to management.
- Highlight risks, trends, or recurring reconciliation issues.
- Provide assurance to management that balances reported are accurate and reliable.
Audit & Compliance Support
- Provide reconciliation evidence and supporting schedules for internal and external audits.
- Ensure reconciliations comply with Bank of Uganda, IFRS, and internal standards.
- Assist the Finance Manager in strengthening audit trails and compliance frameworks.
Collaboration & Risk Management
- Work closely with Finance, Technical & Operations teams to identify and fix root causes of discrepancies.
- Contribute to risk management by monitoring reconciliation trends and suggesting process improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional certification (CPA/ACCA part or full).
- Strong knowledge of reconciliations, IFRS, and internal controls.
Experience
- 2–4 years’ reconciliation experience in Fintech, banking, or payments.
- Hands-on experience with ERP/accounting systems and BI tools.
- Proven record of managing high-volume transaction reconciliations.
Business Understanding / Knowledge
- Deep knowledge of payment systems, digital wallets, and settlement processes.
- Strong understanding of financial controls and fraud prevention practices.
- High attention to detail and accuracy under pressure.
- Integrity and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial data.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Timeliness of daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations.
- Accuracy of reconciliations (minimal errors or unresolved items).
- Average turnaround time to resolve discrepancies.
- Audit outcomes related to reconciliations and controls.
- Reduction in unreconciled items month-on- month.
- Effectiveness in safeguarding company assets through accurate reconciliation.
