Dalilang Foods & Beverages is a Ugandan FMCG manufacturer producing packaged snacks, including potato crisps, gonja chips, coated peanuts and peanut butter, alongside spring water, fruit nectars and energy drinks.

Deliver end to end mechanical reliability by troubleshooting complex mechanical failures, repairing gearboxes, aligning drive shafts, and rebuilding pumps.

Execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance to return plant equipment to safe, reliable, and compliant service.

Coordinate closely with production and support departments to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and without compromising food safety or operational flow.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical failures, repair gearboxes, align drive shafts, and rebuild industrial pumps.
  • Inspect, diagnose, adjust, and overhaul plant machinery using equipment manuals, technical drawings, condition checks, and operating history.
  • Enforce strict isolation, test before touch, pressure release, lifting, confined space, and stored energy controls before beginning intrusive work.
  • Verify safety guards, interlocks, lubrication, alignment, calibration, and operational settings prior to handing equipment back to operations.
  • Execute planned preventive and predictive maintenance schedules, documenting findings on wear, vibration, leakage, temperature, and unusual noise.
  • Identify and order required spare parts, specialized tools, and shutdown windows in advance to support efficient maintenance planning.
  • Coordinate machine handovers with operations teams, clearly communicating when equipment is safe to test, energize, or return to full production.
  • Maintain complete, legible, and traceable maintenance logs, inspection checklists, work orders, and incident documentation.
  • Support root cause analysis on recurring mechanical breakdowns to eliminate repeat downtime and improve plant performance.

Skills

  • Heavy mechanical repair and precision drive shaft alignment.
  • Industrial gearbox overhaul and pump rebuilds.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic system maintenance and fault finding.
  • Systematic technical diagnostics using drawings, measurements, and condition monitoring.
  • Safe industrial maintenance controls, isolation procedures, and permit to work compliance.

Education Qualifications & Experience

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (ERB/UPE registration preferred).
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Higher Diploma, Ordinary Diploma, or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, Automation and Control, Instrumentation, Plant Maintenance, Automotive Engineering, Water Engineering, Chemical Technology, Civil or Building Engineering, or Marine Engineering.
  • National Certificate, Craft Certificate, recognized TVET/UBTEB qualification, trade certificate, or recognized technical apprenticeship in Mechanical Fitting, Welding and Fabrication, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Plumbing, or closely related engineering trade.
  • Specialist technical credentials such as manufacturer training, welding qualifications, boiler certification, refrigeration certification, electrical installation permits, or PLC training where applicable.

Experience

  • 4+ years of experience as a mechanical maintenance engineer in a plant setting.
