Background
The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage electricity distribution networks. The company sales and distributes electricity in Uganda as per ERA License issued on 31 December 2024 covering over 135 political districts, operates a modern pole plant at Lugogo, and executes key rural electrification schemes on behalf of the Government of Uganda.
Job Purpose
To support the efficient and effective operation and maintenance of electrical distribution systems within the customer service department. This role is crucial in ensuring uninterrupted power supply, reducing downtime, and maintaining high customer satisfaction through prompt and skilled technical assistance. The Technical Assistant O&M will oversee Linesmen in field activities, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards in line with company policies and regulatory requirements

By minimizing service disruptions and optimizing maintenance protocols, the Technical Assistant O&M contributes to the company's reputation, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. Through effective supervision of Linesmen, the role ensures consistent service delivery and safe working practices.
Key Result Areas
- Conduct regular inspections, identify issues, and perform maintenance on the electricity distribution network.
- Respond to outages and other issues promptly to restore service efficiently.
- Oversee and guide Linesmen in day- to- day activities, ensuring work is conducted safely and meets company standards.
- Ensure timely resolution of customer complaints and service requests related to technical operations.
- Ensure all maintenance and repair activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Promote a safety culture, providing necessary training and resources to the Linesmen for safe operation.
- Monitor key performance metrics (e.g., response times, downtime) and report regularly to the Customer Service Supervisor.
- Identify areas for improvement in operations and contribute to continuous process improvement.
Expected Output
- Reliable Reduced downtime and improved reliability of electricity distribution services.
- High customer satisfaction achieved through timely responses to service requests.
- Safety compliance and incident- free operations maintained in field activities.
- Regular and accurate reporting on operations, maintenance, and Linesmen's performance.
Person Specifications
Academic Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field
Experience
- 1 years' experience in a similar role would be an added advantage.
Competencies
- In-depth understanding of electrical distribution systems, troubleshooting, and repair techniques.
- Ability to lead, train, and motivate Linesmen, providing clear guidance and fostering teamwork.
- Strong commitment to resolving customer issues promptly and improving satisfaction.
- Knowledge of industry safety standards and ability to enforce compliance.
- Proactive in identifying and resolving technical issues efficiently.
- Clear and effective communication with both field staff and supervisors for smooth operations.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and respond to emergencies promptly.
