Job Description
Monitors hot water blanching temperatures, residence times, and starch reduction processes for sliced potatoes to prepare them for downstream operations.
Maintains continuous processing standards, sanitation, and equipment care to ensure food safety, product quality, and operational efficiency.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate the water blanching line in strict accordance with approved start up, running, changeover, shutdown, and cleaning procedures.
- Monitor blanching water temperatures, residence times, timer settings, and starch washing processes continuously to preserve product quality.
- Perform visual, temperature, cleanliness, and product checks at required intervals and document results truthfully at the time of inspection.
- Execute minor process and machine adjustments strictly within authorized limits and escalate complex technical faults to specialists promptly.
- Identify and isolate defective materials or deviations immediately to prevent non compliant product from proceeding downstream.
- Conduct thorough sanitation, end of run cleaning, and changeover tasks to ensure all product residues and previous run materials are cleared.
- Comply with all occupational safety, food hygiene, chemical handling, and protective equipment guidelines without bypassing safety guards.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and legible shift records, checklists, and process parameter logs for quality verification and shift handovers.

- Starch washing oversight and process monitoring
- Basic blancher machine operation and routine maintenance
- Defect recognition and prompt material containment
- Accurate log keeping and process documentation
Education Qualifications & Experience
Education Qualifications
Ordinary Diploma or National Diploma in Food Processing, Industrial Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Production Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, Applied Sciences, or related technical disciplines
National Certificate, Craft Certificate, Technical Trade Certificate, or TVET qualification in Food Processing, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or related technical areas
Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) trainee route for candidates demonstrating literacy, numeracy, safety awareness, and physical capability to complete internal training
Experience
No prior work experience required.
Includes 3 weeks of processing line training.
