JOB DETAILS:
Responsibilities:
• Support landscaping activities aimed at assessing the current state, barriers, and opportunities for integrated elimination and post-validation/verification surveillance (PVS) and response for onchocerciasis, lymphatic filariasis, and trachoma, specifically including utilization of surveillance systems outside of platforms established for NTDs
• Review evidence around the feasibility and adaptability of existing NTD and non-NTD surveillance systems at national and subnational level for integrating NTD surveillance for PVS
• Participate the design of a toolkit to guide the assessment and planning of integrated PVS and response for lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, and trachoma
• Support data collection activities such as key stakeholder consultations; participate in data analysis; track and archive data and research results.
• Develop trainings and deliver tutorials to support in-country staff in use of developed toolkit
• Prepare reports and presentations to disseminate evidence to wider team, national NTD programs, collaborators and global policy makers

Required Experience
• Graduate degree in a related discipline (medicine, public health, epidemiology, infectious disease, or a related area) required
• A minimum of 3 years of work experience in public health field research or surveillance design, implementation, and analysis (e.g., quantitative and/or qualitative survey methods, disease surveillance, experimental and quasi-experimental study )
• Experience working with international program or surveillance evaluations that use routine national and publicly available data sources, such as health information management system (HMIS), geospatial, and programmatic coverage data
• Ability to review existing research, literature, and resources to contribute to the creation of evidence-based materials and research instruments
• Strong organizational skills, high level of attention to detail, and effectiveness under deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills; adept at working closely with others over geographical distance
• Ability to work both independently with limited supervision and as part of a team.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
• Willingness and ability to travel estimated at 10% of the time

Responsibilities:
Post-verification/validation surveillance of neglected tropical diseases (approximately 85%):
• Oversee landscaping activities aimed at assessing the current state, barriers, and opportunities for integrated post-validation/verification surveillance (PVS) and response for onchocerciasis, lymphatic filariasis, and trachoma specifically, including utility of surveillance systems outside of traditional NTD platforms
• Under leadership of WHO, review feasibility and adaptability of NTD and non-NTD surveillance systems at national level and subnational level for integrating NTD surveillance for PVS
• Review opportunities for novel surveillance platforms, such as serosurveillance, to integrate surveillance among NTDs and with other diseases
• Provide scientific and programmatic support under WHO leadership for the design of a toolkit to guide the assessment and planning of integrated PVS and response for lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, and trachoma
• Cultivate strong partnerships with a wide range of national, regional, and global technical and program partners
• Provide guidance and support to project work in the areas of stakeholder consultation and synthesis of priorities across endemic country stakeholders, funders, and WHO to ensure utilization of assessment findings to guide WHO PVS protocols, criteria, and recommendations
• Overall project implementation including direct staff management, supporting contractual and organizational reporting requirements, and ensuring high-quality technical delivery
• Represent the project in scientific fora; develop and deliver technical talks and presentations
• Lead/co-lead the development of scientific publications and presentations.
• Mentor early career technical staff

MNTD Department (approximately 15%):
• Cultivate strong partnerships with a wide range of technical and program partners.
• Provide technical assistance for NTD or malaria research and program design
• Contribute to strategic planning

Required Experience
• Graduate degree in a related discipline (medicine, public health, epidemiology, infectious disease, or a related area) required
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant global health experience with at least two years of experience supporting NTD elimination or post-validation/verification efforts in at least two countries preferred
• Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, or evaluating NTD surveillance systems for elimination or post-validation/verification preferred
• Demonstrated expertise in consensus building with multilateral institutions and global health organizations including but not limited to the World Health Organization and US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
• Experience coordinating with local institutions and other in-country partners, including National Ministries of Health, required
• Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills; effective at cultivating strong working relationships with a wide range of technical partners and institutions; adept at working closely with others over geographical distance
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
• Experience in public speaking and professional presentations
• Willingness and ability to travel estimated at 25% of the time
• Legal authorization to work in the PATH office country
