Accountant

Twyford Impex Uganda

A key regional arm of Twyford International, engaged in the imports and export of ceramic tiles and sanitary ware across East Africa,supporting large-scale construction and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger, journals, and supporting schedules
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with company and statutory requirements
  • Perform bank, inventory, and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Manage supplier payments, invoice processing, and expense verification
  • Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on collections, and ensure healthy cash flow
  • Maintain accurate records of customer and vendor transactions

Cost Accounting & Inventory Control

  • Track and analyze production costs, including raw materials, labor, and overheads
  • Monitor inventory movements and valuation in coordination with warehouse and production teams
  • Support cost optimization initiatives within manufacturing operations

Tax & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Uganda tax regulations (VAT, withholding tax, corporate tax)
  • Prepare and file statutory returns accurately and on time
  • Liaise with tax authorities and support audits when required

Budgeting & Financial Analysis

  • Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial plans
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide insights to management for decision-making
  • Support cost control and profitability improvement initiatives

Internal Controls & Audit Support

  • Maintain and improve internal control systems to safeguard company assets
  • Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and reports

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Professional certification such as CPA (Uganda) or ACCA is highly preferred

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and manufacturing cost structures
  • Proficiency in accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems)
  • Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Good communication and stakeholder management abilities

Other Requirements

  • 2–5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing or FMCG
  • Knowledge of inventory and cost accounting is essential
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Experience working in a multicultural or regional business environment is an advantage
