1.1 MEAL Unit

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, & Learning unit is leading quality MEAL processes for improved programme performance and sustainable impact through enhanced efficiency and effectiveness of project execution, building credibility and trust in ZOA’s work in Uganda. The department intends to equip the MEAL team members with skills to manage, analyze, and visualize data using Power BI.

Power BI offers robust tools that enable professional data analysis, visualization, and presentation of simplified and automated information understood by various audiences. With its advanced features, users can create automated dashboards featuring powerful and visually appealing ways of reporting promoting Result-Based Management. When integrated with other tools such as Kobo collect toolbox, Power BI can support real-time data, information, automated analysis, enhancing efficient and accurate data-driven decisions making.

1.2 Goal and objectives of the training

The training aim is to equip ZOA MEAL team members with the skills of navigating power BI (features and functionalities), enhance practicalities (data analysis and visualization) and leverage on power BI to analyze project data and present results in appealing dashboards.

2.0 Assignment

As part of strengthening robustness of ZOA Uganda’s MEAL system and functioning, we are seeking a professionally certified and experienced firm and/or individual in Power BI training to offer transferable knowledge and practical skills to our MEAL team.

2.1 Scope of work

The assignment will cover a period of 5 days from Monday 12th through 16th Friday, May 2025 in an hotel space but non residential for both participants and facilitator(s). The exercise will be face-to-face with full attendance for all the days between 8:00am to 5:00pm. All participants are expected to complete the training sessions, pass all training assignments and subsequently come up with the below outputs:

Individual MEAL team Action Plan

  • Link ZOA project Kobo data to Power BI,
  • Thoughtfully plan project dashboards in line with target audience,
  • Initiate the production of individual and/or programme level dashboards,
  • Enhance the utilization of dashboard products in reporting and presentation during dissemination events and learning platforms.

2.2 Deliverables, roles & responsibilities

Consultant /firm

  • Training materials and content used for reference by the ZOA including recording of Power BI instructions and navigation steps,
  • Participant’s certificate,
  • Training report including findings from pre-post test evaluation.

ZOA

  • Recruit and contract the consultant /firm for the assignment,
  • Secure training venue,
  • Procure breakfast, lunch, and evening tea,
  • Water dispenser through the hotel,
  • Approval and payment of the consultant’s fees.

2.3 Line of communication

Upon contract award, all communications and reporting between the consultant /firm and ZOA will be through the Country MEAL Manager ZOA.

2.4 Timeline

The facilitator is expected to have delivered on this assignment in 5 days.

  1. Sign contract & inception meeting: 1st week of May 2025
  2. Share inception report address any comments: 1st week May 2025
  3. Training sessions: 2nd week of May 2025
  4. Activity report: 3rd week of May 2025
  5. Feedback incorporated into draft report: 3rd week May 2025
  6. Final report & approval: 4th May 2025
  7. Effect payment: between 4th week May and 1st week of June 2025
  8. 3.0 Terms & conditions

Payment is contingent upon completion of assignment and submission of final training report with stated deliverables.

  • Workplan entailing

    • Topics for each session

  • Evidence of similar work with re-known I(NGOs) and/or companies (report produced)
  • Power BI certification
  • CV (for individual consultant)/Profile (for firm)
