JOB DETAILS:
THE CONSULTANCY
SIHA is currently implementing a 2-year project dubbed Stronger Together; Strengthening a Cohesive Women’s Network in Uganda. The overall project objective is to Improve the working conditions for women market vendors by influencing the development and implementation of local policies on issues that impact them directly and engaging with local policymakers, city authorities, and women’s rights organizations among others. It is against this background that SIHA seeks a consultant to support with knowledge synthesis that will be used to generate evidence for advocacy activities of the WMVs.

The consultant will be expected to rreview existing policies, by-laws and annual plans of Arua city council to identify existing gaps progress made towards improving the working conditions of women market vendors and provide clear guiding recommendations for evidence-based advocacy; Similarly, the consultant will develop knowledge and communication products including commentaries, blogs, press statements, presentations, talking points, social media messages, fact sheets and policy briefs.

Timeline: 8th September 2023- 22nd September 2023

KEY COMPETENCES AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Relevant academic qualification preferably in one or more of the following disciplines: Social Sciences, Development Studies, Statistics, Gender Studies, law and human rights.
• 5-10 years’ experience in a similar work environment
• Previous work experience on policy review and policy analysis, gender budgeting and policy reforms.
• Ability to synthesize information from a wide range of sources including policy guidelines and documents, by-laws, reports and city council plans.
• Experience working with grassroots women and women rights organizations on gender budgeting advocacy.
• Research experience
• Good report writing skills.
• Good command of English
• Experience working in the West Nile region particularly Arua will be an added advantage.
