Overall Purpose of the Job:

To oversee and manage the daily operations of a poultry farm, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare, biosecurity, production efficiency, and profitability. The Farm Manager is responsible for leading a team to achieve production targets while maintaining compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Flock Management & Health:

  • Oversee all aspects of poultry care, including feeding, watering, vaccination, and medication programs.
  • Monitor flock health daily, identify signs of illness or distress, and implement treatment plans in consultation with a veterinarian.
  • Maintain optimal environmental conditions within housing (temperature, ventilation, humidity, lighting).
  • Ensure all practices meet or exceed animal welfare standards.

2. Production & Performance:

  • Achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) such as mortality rate, feed conversion ratio (FCR), weight gain, and lay rate (for layers).
  • Collect, analyze, and report on production data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Implement strategies to maximize growth, production efficiency, and overall flock performance.

3. Operational Management:

  • Develop and manage the farm’s operational budget and control costs (feed, labor, utilities, supplies).
  • Manage inventory of feed, medications, equipment, and other supplies.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of farm facilities, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Ensure proper waste management and disposal procedures are followed.

4. Biosecurity & Compliance:

  • Develop, implement, and enforce strict biosecurity protocols to prevent disease outbreak.
  • Ensure all farm operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations (FDA, USDA, EPA).
  • Maintain accurate records for flock history, medication usage, production data, and compliance audits.
  • Prepare for and manage all third-party audits and inspections.

5. Staff Management & Leadership:

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise farm staff.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching for team development.
  • Ensure all staff are trained on standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety, and animal welfare.

Candidate Profile/Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • specifically only Diploma  in Animal Science, Poultry Science, Agriculture, or a related field is highly preferred. Significant proven experience may be substituted.
  • Minimum of 2  years of hands-on experience in commercial poultry operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • In-depth knowledge of poultry physiology, nutrition, and disease management.
  • Provision of Accommodation and lunch

Skills & Competencies:

  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Technical Proficiency: Comfortable with farm management software, data analysis, and modern farming equipment.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and perform tasks in all weather conditions.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for dealing with staff, management, vets, and auditors.
  • Business Acumen: Understanding of budgeting, cost control, and operational efficiency.
