The Venn department is the data and technology backbone of our organization, connecting advanced analytics and custom software tools with field implementation to ensure data-informed decision-making at every level.

Job Summary

The Field Supervisor manages data collection quality and field operations for the Venn department. By coordinating between the RTV Venn team and Data Collectors, they ensure activities align with established work plans and provide critical escalation support. The Field supervisor will intensively supervise the Data collectors and the overall collection process in detail, including providing on-site technical support to the Data collectors, participating in community entry and mobilization efforts, conducting routine data quality assessment and delivering data quality assessment outcomes, ensuring data quality, as well as compliance with ethical and survey protocols during interviews and data management in the surveys including the annual & baseline household surveys, household mapping, adoption evaluations, the community needs assessment, the water baselines, and other Evaluations.

Roles and Responsibilities

Community Mobilization

  • Lead the stakeholder mobilization and engagement to ensure an understanding of RTV’s thematic areas and foster buy-in for supporting RTV’s data collection activities.
  • Support the prompt mobilization of respondents ahead of data collection, ensuring timely appointments are scheduled through the respective community structures.
  • Schedule and confirm respondent appointments with local leaders to ensure full participation.
  • Establish and maintain key contacts with the community's leadership structures as a measure of fostering cooperation and stakeholder engagement.

Field coordination & Quality Control

  • Lead on the Household Mapping Village, ensuring the rightful village Data collectors' selection, overseeing training sessions, and monitoring the household mapping data collection activity.
  • Support the Venn Officer in delivering effective training through logistical oversight, such as timely issuance of tablets and active participation in training facilitation, ensuring all trainees meet the set protocols.
  • Escalate field issues promptly and propose solutions within the stated timelines to the immediate supervisor while maintaining an open channel for real-time updates to Venn Officers on progress, risks, and operational needs.
  • Lead daily field check-ins and spot supervision to resolve field operational bottlenecks, ensuring the team consistently meets daily sample targets while maintaining rigorous data quality and submission timelines.
  • Lead daily debriefs with the Data collectors by providing feedback on the collected data, tracking contractor attendance, performance against targets, and adherence to RTV values.
  • Submit daily/weekly/consolidated activity reports detailing progress, contractor performance, challenges, and resolutions.
  • Manage the distribution, tracking, and collection of all RTV-issued inventory, in compliance with the policies.

Other Duties

  • Execute any additional tasks assigned by the Venn Officer to ensure smooth operations and survey success.

Qualifications and Experience

  • University Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Demography, Monitoring & Evaluation, or related field.
  • At least 2+ years of experience in monitoring and evaluation, preferably within the development sector.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft suite, especially Word and Excel, and digital data collection tools, especially SurveyCTO and Survey123.
  • Previous experience in data collection and management is an added advantage.
  • Excellent training facilitation skills
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision while achieving set targets.
  • Prior experience in research methods is an added advantage.
  • Preferably a resident of the stated district

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong teamwork and independent work capabilities.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English and at least one of the following local languages is a must:
    • Alur, Acholi/Kiswahili (Amuru, Gulu, Kiryandongo)
    • Runyankore/Rukiga/ Rutagwenda (Buhweju, Ntungamo)
    • Luganda (Mubende)
    • Lugisu (Sironko)
    • Kapchorwa (Kupsabiny)
