GAHP is a collaborative body made up of more than 60 members and dozens of observers who advocate for resources and solutions to pollution problems. GAHP was formed because international and national level actors/ agencies recognize that a collaborative, multi-stakeholder, multi-sectoral approach is necessary and critical to deal with the global pollution crisis and resulting health and economic impacts. GAHP aims to reduce death and illness caused by all forms of toxic pollution, including air, water, soil, and chemical wastes, especially in low and middle-income countries. These efforts will contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals related to pollution, particularly on Health (Targets 3.4 and 3.9).

ABOUT THE POSITION

GAHP is seeking a qualified, motivated, detail-oriented, full-time Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion Expert Coordinator to conduct a review of Uganda's Agriculture Policies in the context of pollution, GEDSI, and Human Health.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work independently as well as in a team, will be an excellent writer, extremely detail-oriented and organized, and have a proven track record of delivering work products on time. Research and data interpretation skills, logical thinking, and the ability to contribute ideas are also key. Ideally, the candidate will also have a keen interest in the health and environmental impact of pollution.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 The Development of the Preliminary Report and Action Plan (~70%)

  • Work closely with the GAHP Program Manager and Uganda National Coordinator to implement a review of the Agriculture Policies in the context of pollution, GEDSI, and Human Health.
  • Draft a comprehensive policy review report with poverty /GESI-focused actionable recommendations.
  • Align project initiatives with Uganda's existing frameworks, identify gaps, and integrate poverty and GESI considerations for targeted interventions.
  • Conduct desk reviews of Uganda's waste management and agricultural strategies and policies. Include how these policies address or impact poverty, gender equality, and socially excluded groups.
  • Identify policy gaps where women, youth, and marginalized communities are disproportionately affected by pollution.
  • Prepare, draft, review, and disseminate the comprehensive policy review report with poverty /GESI-focused actionable recommendations.
  • Assist in the development of a roadmap/work plan for the next program phase with the GEDSI approach.

Fundraising (~10%)

  • Assist GAHP staff in presenting the comprehensive policy review report with poverty /GESI-focused actionable recommendations to partners and donors.

Administrative (~10%)

  • Feed important GAHP program information to the Communications team for inclusion in GAHP newsletters, blogs, and reports.
  • Help prepare and review all project documents and presentations
  • Process expense reports.
  • Additional tasks as relevant.

Qualifications:

  • At least 6 years of relevant experience working in GEDSI-based research and policy development (project and program coordination on pollution and health preferred)
  • Master's degree is required, preferably in a related field (e.g., global health, public health, environmental science, Agriculture, or a related field); a Ph.D. degree is a plus.
  • Strong writing, research, project management, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel (i.e., formulas, referencing, pivot tables, etc.), and online research tools, or ability to pick up new technology quickly
  • Self-starter and motivated. Must be able to work with directives and minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Experience/knowledge in pollution, environmental, public health, and gender-based issues preferred
  • Must be fluent in English; other languages are a plus.
  • Salary commensurate with experience.

OFFICE CONDITION
This is a full-time position that requires a minimum of forty hours per week. GAHP currently has an office in Geneva, Switzerland. GAHP does not currently have an office in Uganda, and applicants will be expected to work from home full-time. Some travel to various locations for meetings and site visits is expected.
