The Operational Excellence Manager will lead the implementation of AGL's OpEx strategy in Uganda. Reporting to the Managing Director, and working closely with the Regional OpEx team, this role is critical to enhancing operational maturity, delivering measurable results, and aligning improvement efforts with company strategy.
As a member of the Executive Committee, the OpEx Manager will play a key role in shaping AGL Uganda's performance culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & Governance
• Identify and assess operational challenges; maintain a prioritized register of improvement opportunities.
• Develop and manage a portfolio of OpEx projects aligned with strategic goals.
• Engage the Executive Committee to align priorities and foster active involvement in improvement initiatives.
Project Leadership & Execution
• Define project methodologies (eg, Lean, Six Sigma) based on issue complexity and business impact.
• Lead critical improvement projects and provide hands-on coaching for ongoing initiatives.
• Build and manage a network of internal and external OpEx partners to scale impact.
Capability Building & Culture Change
• Train and coach operations managers in core OpEx tools (eg, visual management, standard work, problem solving).
• Design and implement tailored training programs for all terminal employees to support cultural transformation.
• Promote awareness and visibility of OpEx initiatives across the organization.
Knowledge Sharing & Benchmarking
• Capture and document successful initiatives for replication.
• Leverage best practices from other AGL subsidiaries to inspire innovation and accelerate learning.
Profile
Education Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, Industrial Management, Operations, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
• Master's degree (MBA or related field) is an added advantage.
• Professional certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt) is strongly preferred.
• Additional training in project management, change management, or continuous improvement methodologies is an asset.
Skills
• Proven experience in leading Operational Excellence initiatives in any sector
• Demonstrated success in applying Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to drive measurable improvements
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification strongly preferred
• Experience in deploying OpEx strategies across multiple sites
• Strong leadership and influencing skills; able to engage stakeholders at all levels
• Hands-on approach with a strong presence on the shop floor
• Excellent coaching and training capabilities to build internal OpEx competencies
• Effective communicator with the ability to drive awareness and adoption of OpEx culture
