On behalf of Uganda Baati, we are looking for a competent and experienced Quality Inspector to be based in Kampala
Reports To: Operations Manager
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda.
Job Summary: The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods meet the required quality standards and specifications. The position involves conducting inspections and supporting production teams in maintaining product quality while minimizing defects, waste, and non-conformances.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Quality Inspection and Testing
- Conduct inspection of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods in accordance with approved procedures and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Equipment Calibration and Standardization
- Perform routine internal standardization and verification of quality control equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
- Report any equipment malfunctions and coordinate timely maintenance or calibration.
Non-Conformance Management
- Identify non-conforming materials during production and ensure proper segregation and classification.
- Liaise closely with Production teams to ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
- Maintain records of non-conformances and support root cause analysis where required.
Product Handling and Storage
- Monitor handling practices of finished goods and identify risks that may lead to product damage.
- Enforce adherence to proper handling, storage, and stacking procedures.
Transport Inspection
- Inspect trucks, containers, and other transport vessels prior to loading to ensure they meet cleanliness and safety standards.
Housekeeping and Safety Compliance
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures at all times.
Communication and Reporting
- Provide timely and accurate feedback to Production and relevant stakeholders on quality inspection results.
- Prepare and maintain inspection reports, test records, and quality documentation
- Participate in quality meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Quality Management, Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in a quality control or quality assurance role in a steel manufacturing environment.
- Experience in quality inspection processes is an added advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of quality standards and inspection procedures.
- Basic understanding of EHS and quality management systems (e.g., ISO standards).
