JOB DETAILS:

In 1995, Epicentre created a permanent research centre in Uganda to support MSF projects in the region. The primary role of Epicentre in Mbarara is to conduct clinical research following Good Clinical Practice (GCP) requirements on critical public health burdens in Uganda and Africa. To reach this objective, Epicentre collaborates closely with the Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). A full-time experienced research team is based at the Epicentre Mbarara Research Centre. The Mbarara research centre is located in Mbarara Municipality, 300 km South-West to Kampala.
Post: Senior Research Assistant
Mission and responsibilities: The Senior Research Assistant will coordinate the preparation and implementation of the INTENSE TBM project in Mbarara and Kabale under the supervision of the Epicentre scientific project director
Location: MSF/Epicentre Mbarara Research Centre (EMRC), Uganda
Reports to: International principal investigator
Duration: 1 year, renewable.
Start date: ASAP
General responsibilities (not exhaustive):
• Coordinate the submission of the project study protocols to ethics and other necessary regulatory bodies.
• Follow with the administration of Epicentre the development of collaborative agreements or letters with national TB program and research implementation health facilities.
• Organise and coordinate the implementation site assessment and selection.
• Oversee the project progresses according to the project plan.
• Ensure that quality assurance procedures for clinical and laboratory assessment, and for data management are in place.
• Assure the technical supervision of the project HR according to their terms of reference.
• Reporting of the project progresses to the country scientifi c director and the International Research Unit (IRU).
Qualifications and competencies:
• Medical doctor with a Master level: Master of medicine or Master of Science; Master of Public Health, and Master of international health or Master of Epidemiology.
• Two and above years' working experience in clinical research in limited resource countries.
• Knowledge of ICH guidelines, GCP, and the clinical trial study process, Training in project management is an added advantage.
• Ability to work effectively in teams as well as independently.
• Flexible for regular travel to study sites within the country.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
