Background information about the job or company:
The Assistant Commissioner, Aquaculture Development will be responsible for initiating, formulating, and implementing policies, legislations, standards, and National plans for the development of land and water-based culture systems. The role involves promoting, supporting, guiding, and coordinating the provision of technical services for increasing fish production on culture production systems.
Responsibilities or duties:
- Initiating, formulating, and implementing policies, legislations, standards, and National plans for development of land and water-based culture systems
- Promoting, supporting, guiding, and coordinating the provision of technical services for increasing fish production on culture production systems
- Identifying capacity gaps in District Local Governments to support effective implementation of culture fisheries production and forward to management for action
- Providing technical support and guidance to Local Governments, service providers, and the private sector in culture fisheries production
- Providing quality assurance on advisory services for land and water culture systems
- Receiving and analyzing reports on culture fisheries production and development activities in the Local Governments at regular basis
- Monitoring and back-stopping field work in the fisheries Industry
- Leading National working groups on reviews of Nationally and Regionally agreed fisheries policies on data sharing and information dissemination
- Identifying suitable areas and providing guidance for aquaculture parks development
- Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications or requirements:
- Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries or Zoology or Aquatic Biology plus a Master of Science Degree in any of the above fields from a recognized University/Institution. A Post Graduate qualification in Management; or Administration will be an added advantage
Experience needed:
- Applicants should have a minimum of nine (9) years relevant working experience in handling Fisheries Management issues, three (3) of which should have been served at Principal Officer level in Government
