Purpose of the Job

To manage the day-to-day functions of the Laboratory.

Qualifications or requirements

• Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science or Diploma in Laboratory Science (Biology).

Experience needed

• Experience in a teaching or laboratory research is an added advantage.

• Conducting or supporting students and academic staff in carrying out laboratory experiments on specimen or materials using appropriate methods and procedures in the Microbiology Laboratory.
• Recording and interpreting test results arising out of laboratory analyses and investigations.
• Preparing samples and specimens for the conduct of laboratory analysis and investigations.
• Implementing laboratory standard operating procedures and safety and quality control standards.
• Undertaking preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Setting up the laboratory and appropriate chemicals, reagents and equipment for teaching, investigation or research.
• Instructing students and academic staff on laboratory procedure and proper and safe use of chemicals, reagents and laboratory equipment.
• Setting up, calibrating and operating standard laboratory equipment.
• Preparing and maintaining an up-to-date inventory.
• Performing any other official duties as assigned by the Supervisor
