Job Overview:
Reports to the Commissioning Mechanical Superintendent and assist in the execution of a safe and efficient Pre-commissioning, Commissioning, Start-up and Performance Testing of the facility to achieve the plant’s production and performance objectives and McDermott’s contractual objectives. Responsible for the execution of the plant mechanical pre-commissioning and commissioning activities in accordance with the Commissioning Execution Plan. The facility is a Central Processing Facility in Africa.
Provides first line supervision of the technicians carrying out the mechanical completion activities in the area under his responsibility.
Responsibilities
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively within the Project team and with Client to maintain positive relationships
- Supervises pre-commissioning activities for mechanical equipment oil flushing, final alignments of rotating equipment, loading & final closure of stationary equipment within his area of responsibility, and repair and refurbishment of mechanical equipment during commissioning and operations as required.
- Supervises commissioning activities for rotating machinery packages test runs and performance tests within his area of responsibility.
- Development of piping test packs, flushing / cleaning test packs, leak testing test packs.
- Participate in walk down inspections, punch listing, cleaning and reinstatement activities of mechanical / piping systems.
- Record the completion of the mechanical / piping activities and ensure all records are passed to the Systems Completion team for entry into the database.
- Review commissioning, start-up and two-year operating spares. Supervise change out of spares.
- Review lubrication fluid and grease requirements on the project. Supervise first fill lubricants.
- Supervises mechanical preparation of motors for solo run.
- Supervises shaft alignment, flange parallelism and soft foot and coupling installation in machinery packages.
- Responsible for preparation of machinery and other packages for initial run-in operational tests.
- Coordinate with the Mechanical Sub-contractor on site for all Pre-commissioning activities.
- Coordinate with equipment manufacturers and suppliers for mechanical pre-commissioning, commissioning and repairs procedures for mechanical equipment / packages as required.
- Work with Vendors and assist in vendor coordination for SAT’s and initial start-up.
- Responsible for data collection during operational tests i.e. vibration, temperature, pressure flow etc. to complete ITRs for individual machinery and packages.
- Ensure the issue of PTW and job safety analysis for mechanical commissioning activities in the area under his responsibility.
- Supervises the safe and effective utilization of all materials, equipment and personnel assigned to mechanical / piping team.
- Responsible for quantity and quality of all work performed by the mechanical / piping team in the area under his responsibility.
- Redlining as-built P&IDS drawings for pre-commissioning and commissioning works in compliance with project procedure.
- Complies with company policies, procedures and safe working practices.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- Preferably possess a degree / diploma in mechanical engineering or similar.
- Must have a minimal of 5 years’ experience within a contractor organisation as a commissioning mechanical supervisor / specialist.
- Have pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up experience on at least 3 major EPC projects in the refinery, oil and gas industry.
- Experience with rotating machinery equipment packages such as turbines, pumps and compressors.
- Experience with development of test packs for hydrotesting, cleaning, flushing and reinstatement.
- Demonstrate a broad technical knowledge of construction and completion activities.
- Knowledge of Completions Management System is preferred.
- Knowledge of OPERCOM and ICAPS on a large oil & gas project is a plus.
- Competent user of 3D Model software is desirable.
- Able to effectively communicate technical solutions and concepts to other engineers and non-engineers.
- Must have good computer software skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as a minimum.
- Must have strong English communications skills, both oral and written. Second language is a plus.
