Kindernothilfe e.V. (KNH) is a leading German child rights organization operating in 36 countries, reaching over 2.2 million children through partnerships with local NGOs seeks to recruit a Country Coordinator (CC) – Uganda.

KNH has worked in Uganda since 1981, supporting national partners to advance child rights through sustainable, particularly the Self – Help Group Approach.

The Role

The Country Coordinator (CC) Uganda is a senior leadership position responsible for, the development and coordination of the KHN Uganda Program, including partnership oversight, and representation for KNH in Uganda. The CC serves as KNH’s principal representative in-country and works closely with headquarter and regional leadership to ensure high-quality programme delivery and strategic alignment.

This is a full‑time, two‑year contract based in Kampala, with extensive travel within and outside Uganda.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead implementation of KNH’s Uganda country strategy including steering and monitoring its progress.
  • Contribute to the KNH annual national planning and budgeting.
  • Provide strategic and technical oversight to partner organizations in KNH focus areas, including the rights-based empowerment of children, youth and women through the Self-Help Group-Approach, community development, child protection, advocacy, humanitarian assistance, etc.
  • Facilitate partner relationships by conducting organizational capacity assessment (OCA) of qualified new partners or assessment of existing partnerships.
  • Represent KNH with government, civil society, and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure programme quality, and safeguarding compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Coordinator on monitoring cost-effectiveness of projects and safeguard coherence between programmatic and financial planning and implementation/administration of the projects.
  • Monitor contextual developments and advise on strategic responses.
  • Prepare to lead a KNH country office and team as the programme evolves.
  • Lead the KNH sponsorship program in the country.
  • Organize workshops and partner meetings

Key Requirements

  • Master’s degree in International Development, Community Development, Human Rights, or related field.
  • 5–10 years of senior experience in the NGO/development sector.
  • Proven expertise in partnership management, project cycle management, monitoring & evaluation, and capacity development.
  • Strong background in child rights and rights‑based approaches; safeguarding commitment essential.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, negotiation, diplomacy and cross‑cultural skills.
  • High proficiency in MS Office tools, a valid passport and a driver’s licence required.
  • Experience in working with rights-based approaches and proven experience in promotion of children's rights.
  • Willingness to commit to and adhere to KNH’s interests and values, i.e. its Child Protection Policy.
  • Experience in working with child rights/human rights organization is preferred.
  • Commitment to gender equality, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience in advocacy work.
  • Proven experience in proposal development and reviewing, from concept note to the full proposal.
  • Demonstrable experience in monitoring, evaluation, documentation and report writing,
  • Demonstrable experience in designing and conducting training or other forms of capacity development & exchange.
  • Excellent management, analytical and organizational skills for strengthening quality and effectiveness systems and for participating in international management structures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain strong inter- and cross-cultural professional relationships with people of different social status, and in different time zones
  • Willingness and ability to develop strong teamwork relationships
  • A good team-player, self-driven, pro-active, capable of meeting tight deadlines and able to work autonomously and flexibly
  • Willing to travel extensively (within the areas of operation in Uganda, in Eastern and Southern Africa and abroad) and work long hours if necessary.
