The District Technical Officer- MNCH & malaria provides technical support and capacity building to districts and health facilities to improve service delivery and outcomes. Responsibilities include implementing and monitoring maternal, newborn, child health, and malaria prevention and control strategies, training and mentorship for health workers, supporting data collection and reporting, and ensuring alignment with national guidelines and project work plans.

Overall Responsibilities
  1. Work closely with the Health Advisor for MNCH/Malaria to implement Malaria and MNCH interventions at the facility and community levels.
  2. Provide direct technical assistance to health facilities and district teams in MNCH and malaria services, ensuring quality of care and appropriate management. 

3.        Support districts to implement MNCH/Malaria interventions through a district-led programming approach.

  1. Deliver an efficient training and mentorship program for healthcare workers, CHEWs, and VHTs, to enhance their skills and knowledge in MNCH and malaria case management.
  2. Coordinate, supervise, and monitor the execution of MNCH interventions to ensure compliance with quality-of-care standards for MNCH. 
  3. Assist in collecting, analyzing, and reporting on project data and health indicators, contributing to program evaluations and learning.
  4. Support facilities in developing and implementing quality improvement (QI) activities and ensure they are equipped and resourced to provide quality services.
  5. Support districts and health facilities to utilize client audit tools for patient care and planning.
  6. Strengthen the capacity of district and health facility staff to conduct surveillance for malaria and respond in real-time to upsurges and epidemics.
  7. Strengthen and expand iCCM, which may include periodic review of the iCCM curriculum.
  8. Actively participate in district planning processes, budgeting, and reporting.
Required Qualification, Experience and Competencies:
  • ·       Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery or Bachelor’s degree in nursing sciences (with bias in midwifery) or Bachelor’s in a related health discipline with a background diploma in nursing/midwifery from a recognized University and fully registered with the Uganda Medical Practitioners Council or the Nurses Council.
  • 5 Years Relevant Experience
